First post, soon to be owner
Hi everyone. First of all, I've perused this site for a few months and there is a wealth of information and advice available, so thanks!
Have fired the first salvo at ownership of a 997 by sending out requests for information at a couple of dealerships. Here are the particulars I'm interested in:
2006-2008 model years
CPO'd
Coupe
Manual transmission
Black interior
Color preferences: silver, Atlas, black, red (wife hates red, I think it's OK)
So first up on the list is a 2007 base CPO with low miles (less than 15k) and well-spec'd (19" wheels, nav, power seats). Looks nice and the asking price is about $52k. Heck of a drive getting it back home at 11 hours, but that's fine.
Initial offer (assuming all checks out) at $48? $47? What do you all think?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to 6speed! The 2007 that your looking at sounds like it would be a good deal if they let it go for the 48 your offering. Best of luck, post up some pictures once you find your new toy.
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I understand pics are mandatory around here!
How do you like your 335? I've currently got the 325, so a 997 is a huge step in so many ways.

PDK is an amazing technology, but I do love rowing the gearbox myself. And I'm looking at the generation I version, so it's moot for me.
Good luck with your search. I'm quickly finding out that staying local is limiting (even in Atlanta) so am completely open to a flight out and a long drive back.
For 2006 Carrera S fully loaded, target 45K - 48K private sale (given average 6k miles per year). If CPO then add $2K to the price. Add 3K premium for each year until you get to the 997.2 (I know nothing about 997.2 pricing). Good Luck. I bought a fully loaded 2005 C2S with PCCBs (Launch Edition) in the low 40Ks from a private seller approx 6 mos ago. Good Luck. Also, all TSB were performed and the interior and exterior were in excellent condition. PPI was great and no ignitions over range 4. I could care less about warranty however.
I found a car on autotrader that fit what you describe but I don't know if it's "the" car . If it is --- then EVERYTHING about it looked great until I read the carfax which indicated a recurring problem where the clutch and transmission were checked with BOTH previous owners .In my opinion .. that's a red flag .
If the car above is NOT the the car you are looking at then you are spot on with pricing.

Warranty is a must for used cars in my opinion, what's another 2K on a 50K car. 2005 and 2006 are known to have IMS/RMS issues, I would not want to fork out the bill for those known issues. PPI can't predict future problems. Pioneer Porsche in SD did my PPI and the mechanic said mine was flawless, only to find out I have transmission/RMS seepage during my annual oil/filer service. Thank God for CPO, I had to leave my car there overnight, I checked the invoice and they did a lot of work, Would had cost me more than the $2K. Food for thought.

In fact, I just sent over an offer and one of the terms clearly states the CPO coverage is included and the period begins the day I take ownership.
We'll see how the offer goes. Fingers crossed!
I agree with you on the CPO. Peace of mind when forking over that kind of coin is well worth it for me, particularly when there are known and expensive issues out there.

edit - :tu supposed to be a thumbs up smilie, doesn't work on this forum I guess.
Good deals are defintely out there. I picked up my '07 CS2 in January w. 22,000 miles and nicely optioned (Nav, PSE, Sport Adaptive Seats, turbo wheels) with CPO for just over $50k. It was less than $50k w/o the CPO.
Thanks everyone for your comments. We did the deal today and I'm flying up sign the papers and drive it back home on Monday. Here are some particulars:
2007, 11k miles, Carrera 2, coupe, CPO, Atlas Grey, Black interior, power seats, PCM, 19" carrera classics, Bose. Pretty well optioned, I'd say.
Deal was done at $52,500 "out the door" so effectively $51,500 if you strip out all the random fees. That's much closer to their asking price then my first offer, but is still $3-4k less than KBB asking price data.
Pumped and excited to get behind the wheel. Next stop: Bumperplugs!!!

I was correct with my guess on the car (in Ohio) .
Since you have done the deal I do wish you the best but before you drive it you may want to look at the carfax and test out that clutch and find out what was done to that transmission . I know nothing about the car other than what i read but two different owners did have it checked .
The car does look beautiful in photos and atlas is an awesome color. I hope this all goes well for you .
