I can Breath!

My car has been feeling a little sluggish once I get over 4k rpm's lately. My air filter wasn't scheduled to be replaced for another 4k miles but I decided to check it. OMG it was filthy. I just popped over to the local dealer, picked one up and did a search here for instructions on what to do. What a difference. The acceleration is smooth and even the sound is crisper. It was filled with pollen and even a few whole leaves made their way into the box. I guess I'll reduce my filter's life expectancy to about 10k.

Thanks again 6Speed!

it is an annual procedure to take out filter and clean/replace it, as well as take out MAF sensor and give it a full bath as well. you may be surprised how different car will feel after that.

Filter life is so dependent on conditions that can't be determined by only time...

Drive a car ten miles through a sand storm and you're back to zero on most of your filters... clean em' or replace em'.

i buy maf cleaner liquid sparayer from autozone and sray.soak extracted sensor in it for 5 min or so, usually use whole can on it. then let it dry out and mount it back. it is not that difficult, one relatively tricky part is to disconnect all wires from it before you unscrew it.

and usually it is wise to give it 15-20 min after you put it back so it will get more or less completely dry. hold it at its outer plastic case, do not touch sensor itself, do not rub it, just sparay at it from all angles, cleaner goes out with adequate pressure to remove all dirt/oil off.

to undo the wiring harness there is a place to press in on the bottom correct? Pinch the connector around the MAF and seperate? Or is it a clip that needs to be pulled away from the sensor to release it? I can't get my head in there to see directly so I'm describing by feel.

hmm. i guess best bet will be to search on how it gets done, I already forgot that part, how exactly i pulled it off. i think i struggled only once when I got air box off car for first time ever, then it became kinda easier, so i do not even remember any specific steps. may be i broke off something.
