hi, my setup is in my signature. i started with fabspeed mufflers and wasn't pleased at all (drone at low RPM, barely different sound from stock on the high end). then tried a gundo hack and loved the sound, but wanted to amplify the volume and maybe gain some power in the process. in both cases, i'd say the videos i based my decision on turned out to be pretty different than the actual mod (to my ears anyway). i then added sport cats, headers, etc. and now i'm super-pleased with the sound, and picked up a bit of power too.

note i have a 997.1 though so most of this is irrelevant to you. my point is only that, since you live in socal, i think it should be easy enough to have an in person listen first. good luck with it!

I can't agree more with this guys... If/when possible it's always a good idea to listen to a system that you are interested in live/in person. Especially if you're uncertain/unsure. Not always possible for owners in remote areas but in California it shouldn't be too hard

Gotta chip in here, PSE doesn't sound as good as TUBI, on par with sharkwerks with the primary delete and X pipe installed however.

Thanks!
BTW, what's most important to you, sound or power, and what's your budget? You can also increase sound and power on the intake end as well. IPD plenums and freer flowing air intake systems will give you a huge bang for the buck.

Steve997S, sound is most important to me and no budget. The fact it is a brand new 2011 and my 1st Porsche, i am not ready to modify anything other than cat back exhaust for now. Not building a race/track car, just want it to sound really good and throaty as a factory part time street driver!

Leaning hard on Tubi at present! Still looking for a volunteer in the S California to let me come hear one in person!

Thanks for all the input fellas!

You can't go wrong with the Tubi side mufflers and the Sharkwerks crossover, but there are a few other options out there that you should consider. I have and recommend highly the FVD Street/Sport PDK system which has the two smaller side mufflers and it's own center muffler delete X-pipe. I think it sounds a little deeper than the Tubi/Sharkwerks set-up and it costs a little less and advertises more HP/TQ gain. Something to consider. Come to Phoenix and I will give you a demo.

Carson K. here is a video of our 997.2 C2S 6-speed with X-Pipe bypass and Maxflo Dual-Tone Mufflers. Very deep and throaty with no drone inside the cabin.

Wheels Boutique just uploaded a video last week of our Maxflo mufflers installed on a new Carrera GTS.

I had the Tubi on my car before I sold it.

i picked it because I wanted a deeper, more aggressive sound without it being overly obnoxious where I couldn't have a conversation in the car or my neighbors wanting to secretly kill me. It might a bit tame for some but it was perfect for me. At wide open throttle, it just screams!

Good luck with this decision - not so simple and, obviously, all about personal preference.

I didn't see anyone recommending AWE, so you might want to check out their products as well.

I installed the AWE cans and cross pipes and am really happy with the sound. I didn't like the sound of Tubi - just didn't sound right for Porsche for my taste. The AWE is nice and deep at startup / low RPM, sounds great when you jump on it...but still not obnoxious...and no drone at cruising speed.

I hate to admit this, but I bought based on sound clips...I knew I was taking a gamble, but I'm happy with the result.

Good luck.

depends on your expectations

I had the PSE retroffited to my 997.2 with the button (many forego the button and its a much less expensive install).

The answer depends on your expectations for the car. If its a weekend car and you want to turn heads, the PSE won't do it IMHO. It's only a bit louder than stock, but it does have a unique nasal porsche sound (almost an echo). It makes a 997.2 sound more like a 993.

I've heard 3 aftermarket exhausts on 997s, and they were all louder than PSE.

I drive mine daily. I turn the exhaust off on a crappy day, at the bank drive through, when my daughter is sleeping in the back seat, on a highway trip with the wife etc...

My friend has a 997 with a fabspeed exhaust. His car sounds mean. But then again he drives it literally 1,500 miles a year.

One thing about the PSE, if you were to ever sell it, it supposedly holds value very well.

Good luck,
DRP

Sharkster, what is your opinion of your cross pipes (rear muffler delete) along with the PSE. I like the PSE, but looking for a little more, while maintaining the switch.

I actually like that option as it turns the volume up a bit. A few folks have posted some videos but let me know if you want to try it

I had a afterhours system on my NA 996 C4 and loved it. Lightweight and terrific sound.
