New Purchase???
New Purchase???
Well, I made the mistake this weekend of going to my local Porsche dealer. He "made me" drive a 2005 C2S loaded to the hilt with every option except for ceramic pads. I currently have a 2002 C2 with 28,000 miles. I guess the question I have is there a big enough difference between the 996 and 997 to make it worth it? ($20,000). Are the two chassis different enough?
Please help I have to make my mind up by tommrow night!
Thanks to all
Peter

I owned a 2000 996 as well as a 2002 996 . Then came the 05 997s , 07 997s (brief ..traded for Turbo) , and 09 997S .
Without a doubt the 997S is leaps and bounds above the 996. Everything from the more powerful "S" engine to the body structural improvement right down to the huge upgrade with the interior make it easy to draw that opinion.
I would not buy the 05 car though . If looking for used savings and reliable .. 06 and 07 .

The chasis is virtually identical. In fact just about every suspension part aside from the struts and springs can be swapped back and forth. Of course the same can be said for all modern Porsche cars, as even the Boxster and Cayman suspension pieces can be traded to a 997.
That being said, the interior, exterior and upgraded M96 engine make the extra money worth it. And, like Larry said, I would go for an 06 or 07.
