While I have been scouting an 05/06 C2S, I have changed my short term budget from $50k down to $35k. I have found several Cayman S with low mileage <30,000 for low-mid $30's. Consider the C2 vs. a high mileage (>70,000 miles) 06 C2S for the same price...how would you vote?

I vote Cayman S. I considered getting one but really wanted the 911's back seats for my little ones for family day trips.

Will you be happy with a Cayman? If not, maybe wait until your budget allows the C or Cs of your liking. I know if I "settled" on a purchase it will not last long and I will be searching for the car I really want pretty quickly, within months. Patience may be in order. G/L with your decision.

imo it comes down to how much you care about the extra space of the 911, the extra prestige, and the extra power. if those things don't mean much to you, the cayman handles just as well, maybe better, and has very much the real porsche feel on the road. personally, i would feel underpowered in a cayman and i do occasionally haul friends in the backseats.

In my experience its best to buy the best Porsche you can unless you are sure you will have no buyers regret.

Keep looking, I got my 05 C2 with 50K miles for 34K. So there are deals to be found. I love my C2, a cayman was never on the options list.

I'd buy neither . Since you want the C2S the Cayman S becomes the car you settled on . Had you began the post by saying that you love the Cayman s (which BTW is a great car) it would change my "perspective" .

It's better to buy no car than buy the wrong car ... even if the wrong car happens to be the right car at the price .. but not the right car for you.

+1, for a second I lived this situation and went for the 997. Sorry, the cayman is no substitute for a 911, S or not.

Dear '****':

I have a 400+HP C2S which I'm going to keep and have been looking for the "right" used Cayman for 9 months; got the idea a year ago after a friend in Orlando kept his cayman when he got his loaded 2010 GT3.

My vote of course is to let your brains and your wallet rather than your psyche determine your choice -the Cayman S.

You're looking at the Cayman S by default. Your dream car is the C2S, save up your coin until you're in position to get the Carrera. OTW you have a good chance of suffering buyer's remorse everytime you see a 911 on the street. Cayman S wasn't even a choice for me. Hell, I would have had buyer's remorse getting a base Carrera YMMV.

Keep at it. I was worse off than you, in Hawaii and working with a $40K budget. On Tuesday I fly to Vegas to pick up a 2006 C2S with 65K miles. The car is perfect, just went from LA to LV often, but PPI is clean, all services done, and its loaded with leather, chrono, nav, bose, power seats and X51. Paid $42K with little negotiation. Not an earth shattering deal, and I would have liked a warranty, but I still think this was by far the best car I saw in 3 months of searching the western US.

Appreciate the different points of view. I am leaning towards continuing to ride around in the sedated sedan that is paid for until the right C2S emerges. Hard to be patient though, knowing what I could be driving instead...do you think there's any advantage to waiting until the 991 is released in hopes of additional inventory hitting the market?
