40K dealership checkup necessary?
Yeh it will absorb water if left open. But the brake system is sealed and there is no way you will get water in there. I might understand if you track the car and have alot of heat, but normal driving there should be no problem going 100,000 or more miles. Changing more than that is just BS to get you to spend money. $300 for a 30 min job and some brake fluid is just crazy anyway.
The answer is finite. Diffusion can happen even in a 'closed system.' While it may not be the primary source of water in brake lines. I would not discount it.

+1. That is why Porsche recommends a brake fluid change based on mileage or time interval. Not sure what the big deal is. It seems trivial to spend a couple of hundred bucks on maintaining a major safety component like brakes. Not something I’m willing to skimp on. Even if you just spend $1000 a year on maintenance, it is only about 1% of the original purchase price. A pretty good deal when compared to maintaining other assets like boats, planes, real estate, etc.
Took much of everyone's advice and went on and checked my CPO sheet. Most of the major maintenance was done late May of 2010. I let the dealer know this and we both agreed that the minor maintenance would be sufficient since it's been driven 10k miles already. Plugs and breaks should be fairly new as well since the CPO. Thanks for everyone's advice. Appreciated
