AWD Multi-plate Clutch & Neutral ?
AWD Multi-plate Clutch & Neutral ?
Question : AWD Engineering
If a 997.2 w/ AWD is in neutral does the PTM (Traction Management) controlled electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, automatic brake differential (ABD) and the anti-slip regulator systems become inactive ? In my old MiniS I'd simply glide down the + two mile long mountain highways in neutral, saving fuel and enjoying the free rolling chassis.
With the 997.2 awd I wonder if the various PTM components are nullified in neutral. The system is supposed to sense the difference of the front to rear axles speeds. Traction on a dry road surface may not be an issue, the tire grip is OK, but if the road is moist does the PTM depend on engine power to activate the AWD systems or is it possible that the rear axle's rotation would 'power' the front axle even when in neutral ? The 997.1 awd's used a viscous coupling which may have acted similarly.
