1st gear trouble, 2007 997?

Hi All,

so, called the dealer and he told me to bring the car back for the brake sensor light.

i forgot to mention another item to him that i should of. but, i wish to know if this is common before i say anything to him.

I at times, have trouble putting the car in 1st gear. the rest of the gears are fine, but that first gear!!!! at times, i really have to force it in.

any thoughts.....

Thanks

Does this happen more when the car is cold or does it happen even when it's hot?

Mine has been doing it since day 1. If you double-clutch to get into first it usually goes into gear smoother. I suspect it's just tight build tolerances on the synchros.

I have the same problem. I always go into 2nd gear first, then up to 1st gear.

I noticed mine doing it, too. Very rarely, and it seems to happen more when it's cold.

Happens not infrequently. Double clutch before 1st or go straight to 2nd as others have mentioned.

I suppose we are all glad to know that it is a 'common' issue and that it is not an issue with our particular car... but wouldn't you expect Porsche to create a smoother 1st gear technology? Even my finance thinks its a bit funny when I have to massage the 1st gear in on a cold start when we drive.

This is the least smoothest 1st gear out of all stick cars I have driven yet (american/jap/euro)

Same here, when the car is cold, first gear can be tough to engage. Double clutching or going into second before reengaging first seems to help.
