Cabrio Top - Does it bead??

I have found conflicting information regarding the cabrio top... is the water supposed to bead up? Currently mine does not. I treated it with a convertible top cleaner/protectant, however, still have no beading and it looks like it gets saturated.

Do your cabrio tops bead when wet??

No beads on mine when washing......same year as yours. I think when new it might have , but the elements probably took that away.....no worries

Hi,

Mine does not bead. I've treated it as well. However, have driven it extensively in the rain (at least since I've owned it for the past 7 months) with no problem.

it's water repellent but not water proof like gore tex.

so it beads but will saturate if water sits long enough.

My '06 Cab beads up like it's new. I use 303 High Tech Fabric Guard twice a year.

+2

Can't remember when I first got the car, but after I treated the top with raggTop, it beads up big time when I wash the car. Don't drive the car in the rain so not sure about that, but for sure when I wash the car, big, beads or water.

raggtop works great. You should probably apply it at least twice a year.

Here's a shot of my top after pouring ~12 oz of water. The top was last treated @ Christmas time 2010. I've been using the 303 High Tech Fabric Guard twice a year since 2006. I clean it w/ Porsche top cleaner shampoo, let it dry & then applied the 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. I pour the 303 on a small section of the top & rub it in by hand. I use to use the sprayer on the bottle but it took too long & I had to protect the rest of the car from the over spray. I do not use any soap on the top during car washing except for the twice a year use of Porsche top cleaner shampoo.

303 Aerospace Protectant works great on the leather & vinyl. My Cocoa Brown leather dash & seats look like the day I took delivery.

mine beads just like that.. but with lot less work..

1- before i wash my car, i saturate the top with the 'cleaner' spray.. then i wash my car except for the top

2- at the end, i gently wipe the top with a sponge (new & clean.. wet & soaped terry cloth sponge) (i don't use brush anymore no matter how soft the bristles are.. )

3- i rinse the whole car with water, from top down, making sure all soap is out of the canvas top.

4- (optional) when the car is dry, use a lint-removing roller on top.

5- spray the 'protectant' on top. be careful around the edges.. (i use a temp cover (paper, towel, etc) when i am doing the edges so the spray doesn't get on the glass/paint)

6- wait a day, repeat #5
