Floor Jack and Stands

Buying low profile 2 ton jack and 4000 lbs stands. I know this will be fine for my 997.2. Would also like to use the jack to lift 1 corner of my wife's car then support with 1 jack stand to remove 1 wheel at a time to clean/change wheels. Her SUV weighs 5400 lbs. Will the jack and stand be safe 1 corner at a time? Thanks.

It does not appear the weight will be the issue, but the balance. It depends on how stable the jack stand is (how wide the footing, how high it will be, etc.). Garage floors a slick and if the SUV is pushing out on the stand that would be an issue if you start rocking the SUV around removing or reinstalling the wheels. If you have wide footed jack stands that won't be an issue but don't jack it up any higher than needed.

The SUV is 5400 lbs. That weight is supported over all 4 wheels.

If you jack up one corner you will experience some fraction of that weight (lets call it 1/4 though it will be more at the engine end of the thing, and less at the non-engine end of the thing).

four 4,000 lb stands could support a 16,000lb vehicle (in theory, if the weight was evenly distributed in the vehicle).
