Depends on your circumstances

It appears that if you have access to a hose and don't mind washing your car at least once a week, then black is a good color to have given it's "wow" factor.

If you spend most of your time in NYC, the lack of a driveway/hose and garage facility/valet parking will demolish your paint... I used to have a Dark Blue 993 that I eventually sold because it looked like a rat! The paint showed every mark and swirl... it had 20,000 miles on it but looked more like 120,000 miles.

I get a lot of satisfaction out of detailing my black 997. I have owned other color cars, and I never got that "ahhhhhh" feeling when I got done detailing them. Sure, all cars look good clean, but to me, black is always a couple notches up on the beauty scale.

I got the car with some light scratches and it needs a professional detail (I have been wanting to buy a Flex polisher, but......). I can say I have not made the scratches/swirls worse since I use the 2 bucket method.

DO IT! Get the Flex, but just understand that it is a bit of a slippery slope from here... Makes it so easy to do detailing yourself and will only run you about $450 to have everything to detail any car that you own for many many years. A decent paint correction detail will run you at least $350-500 if they are any good so I considered it a long term investment when I bought mine. If I had it to do again I would pick up a flex with orange/white/black pads, Meguiars 105/205, Optimum No Rinse, and for a black car the most amazing wax is Blackfire Wet Fire over Ice.

*Edit* Not my photos, but I was looking for them and wanted to post them up. This is why black is such an amazing color. This was done with the Blackfire wet fire over ice wax.

Jake -

This captures my situation perfectly. I have a Meteor Grey car now and although it's 3 years old, it still looks brand new...I also have a really good garage. However, dust is inevitable, so it looks like black is now for me at this time.

Looks great!

On my 997TT (black), I liked Flex + Menzerna SIP on a LC green, and PO85RD on a LC blue or white.

I cheaped out with Einszett 1Z Glanz, but since it is synthetic it definitely lasts.

Black lets you get much closer to your car. Don't fret swirls and dust, stay inside the car and just drive and drive........

I have never been a fan of balck for all the reasons mentioned here. However, the Ynot's photoshoot is starting to convince me otherwise....his black car is stunning. I don't think you can make any other color look this good. Of course, no question he has invested a bunch time and money for his mods but still, its probably one of my favorites. You can check the photos out at https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...hotoshoot.html

black car is PITA - all the reasons you listed, plus very hot in summer. I had one before, so, it does not attract me anymore. i am into white now.
or color blind silver.

I had jet black on my first 997 and have Basalt Black on my new one. It takes a while, but I enjoy doing the detailing myself to keep it up. It looks great when completed.

Looks pretty 'black' to me. And as I said earlier, the silver flake makes it easier to look after.

Never used the Menzerna line, but it is very popular. Sounds like an awesome combo. I absolutely love sealant/glazes like Glanz. Best part about them is when you put it on under the finishing wax they make the car sparkle that much more. I use Optimum Poli Seal and touch up my car every few months with it since it doesn't take too long with the Flex. Glazes aren't cheap they are smart
