Need help with 12v cigarette plug

Guys,

The 997 have two 12v cigarette plugs and I just found out both plugs provides constant 12v power even after my car is parked and locked.

Do they all operate this way? I never had a car does that, when I turn off my engine, lock my doors, the cigerete plug power will be off.

My 997 12v cigarette plug power stays on, anyone knows how to fix this?

It's not a problem as they're designed that way. Good for battery maintainers otherwise they wouldn't work. Either unplug whatever it is you're leaving left plugged in to prevent battery drain or hardwire it to another source (they are more than a few switched empty slots available in the fuse box).

Though you could put a diode/transistor circuit in there that would allow current to only flow TO the battery when the ignition is off, and allow current to flow TO and FROM when the ignition is on. It is doable.

Yes this is a pain I struggled with when it came to my V1 radar detector. I eventually solved it by using an "add-a-circuit fuse" into my fusebox (by your left foot) and running the wire up and tucked away to the rearview mirror. There are some great posts describing how to do that. Worked great. Now I don't really have a need for the cigarette lighter.

Yea, that's the problem, I can't even plug in my radar detector, I will tap onto my fuse box.

I bought one of these

and plugged it into a switched fuse. Worked great! just make sure it is the right size....

I have a V1 hardwired up by the rear view mirror. I just turn it off when I'm not using it.
