i noticed the price increase myself!

It seems that all cars went slightly up, IMO because of the summer since they are more desirable...

I would imagine that after August prices will drop again...

It makes me feel that i got an excellent deal for my car about two months ago...

3.6 litre, 15.9K miles, manual, sport chrono, sport adaptive seats, bose suround, CPO'ed until 2015 for 65K dollars....

But just like the real estate boom years, if you sell, you'll have to spend to get into something else (and it would be another P car for me for sure). Not that getting another car is as essential as getting another home. Well, I take that back, I can't live without my 911!
Yep --buy on market weakness sell into strength .
I just can't bring myself to sell my car though .

Just saying. Gary,
They are also not like other cars .

The Porsche 911 market has been cyclical in terms of pricing . Agree --It's not like stock or real estate .. but it does have equity and despite its depreciation .. timing (especially for the short term owner ) is important to maximize the gain and minimize the loss .

One can't pick the bottom but 09 sure looked attractive
One can't pick the strong point either .. but when 09 cars for the most part are asking in the 80's .. that's looking pretty good .

I would agree that prices on the wet coast have gone up over the last few months. I've been in the market looking for something since last fall and pulled the trigger in late March on a 2007 C2 with 11K miles and some of the options I wanted. Since then I've noticed the prices have started climbing and a local dealer I spoke with told me (take with a grain of salt) that this was his best spring ever and he couldn't keep enough used Bentleys in stock. I guess the oil, gas and mining sectors are on an upswing or people are cashing in on the equity in their houses.

If you can live with a tan interior, this one is pretty well priced and not too far away and only 5K miles.

Personally, I find that color combination acceptable, but I have to say it puts me off to deal with a seller who describes a 997.2 as having a Tiptronic transmission and rear air conditioning. I grant you they may have shipped dot twos with Tiptronic instead of PDK to some markets, but I'd want more than a casual assertion. As for the "rear air conditioning," I do share the seller's concern that the speakers in back be kept cool when the primary air conditioning is going to be absorbed by dealing with the "19 inch Navigation System".

Seriously, was the person who created that entry within eyeshot of a Porsche of any kind?

Auto Brokers ?
Craigslist ?
75K for a two (going on 3) year old car ?

OK .. my feeling is that if one spends 75K he has to reduce as many doubts as possible . I pound the pavement that at at this price level I'd buy a new car .

However .. if he must buy used and PDK is a must .. then he has to give up something at some point . I looked at every 09 car on auto trader .

It's not black exterior .. but it does have black interior . More important is that it has CPO and it's a late 09 car (less than 2 years old)

Considering had badly we're getting ripped off on the cost of Porsches north of the border, this price is not too bad. I do agree that the dealer has to learn a little about Porsches. But let's face it, quite a few of the bona fide Porsche dealers seem to get the descriptions of the cars incorrect. Up here a base Porsche with no options starts just north of $90K, and a strippo S is $105K without the almost $2K PDI and freight. As you can imagine quite a few make there way north, and in Vancouver they seem to be selling like hot cakes, so that is driving up the local prices. I agree a car with a CPO would be very desirable and worth holding out for.

I don't think that's practical, Larry. Possibly the Kia Koupe being advertised in the margin at that link you posted, but not a 997. We're talking $75 to 85k and I don't think any 911 has been sold new for those prices since the nineties some time. Probably quite early in the nineties.

It wasn't really a joke when I said that a Jaguar XF was available at one of our advertisers and I could sell my used 911, pay cash for that Jaguar brand new, ship it to California, pay California tax and license, and still have about $20,000 left over to throw a party for the forum.

Carreras ain't cheap.

You might be right .
Chances are that the buyer looking at 75K can really afford 65K and is stretching the budget . If that's the case .. then he might not be able to afford the car at all and he certainly can't afford the loss if the purchase doesn't meet expecations .

These cars are expensive but if a person is gong this deep .. he has to get it right .

A Porsche 911 is not a Jaguar HF which tanks in value .

He can always wait .. (IMO --best choice) .. but if he wants a car today .. the market is what it is .

I actually contacted them on Thursday about this one. It definitely fit the options list, but decided to keep looking for a black interior, even full leather isn't a deal breaker form me. They are firm on price as I offered to put down a deposit, but they didn't even want to hear an offer, still may drive down to look at it in person if it's still available on Monday.

Originally I budgeted $65k for a 997.1 C4S, then reading all the reviews on the the 997.2 I upped my budget to 70K. Now I'm at 75K and am willing to stretch it to $80k if I can locate a well equipped awd model, but won't go any higher. Heck if I can locate a PDK and sport chrono equipped C2 in the low 60's I may jump on it.

I'm in no hurry, so will just wait till the right one shows up. I just hope more options become available prior to the 991 release as I doubt I can wait that long.

Unfortunately buying new in Canada is out of my budget and US dealers can't sell new cars to Canadians. I do agree 75K is a bit much for a 3 year old vehicle, but after looking at other options came to the conclusion that you really can't get much for 75k anymore ( at least in Canada). I find a 911 has a timeless design so can see myself owning it a long time (over 10 years) without getting bored or having the itch to upgrade or modify it.

The most important thing in the used market is be sure the car is reliable and has no stories . It's my opinion to question ANY used car (even from an authorized dealership) .

I tend to like cars which are CPO or well cared for by private owners who are mature drivers .

80K is Turbo territory .

Even though I own an 09 997S -I would not buy my own car for 80K .

Good luck.

firmer on price is another trend lately. Dealers are not dealing as much. There are not so many cars on the lots and they can afford to wait.

Buyers can wait also. But it's a gamble. If the economy really gets better does the position of the waiting buyer really improve?

I agree a turbo would be nice, and after a couple of years with the C2 I'll probably make the jump to a turbo, however, I would like one without the AWD. Here 2007 turbos in respectable condition start in the mid 90's and go up quickly from there.
