Pre-owned 997.2 C2S, Couple of Pricing Questions
#31
There's a chance that these cars will retain their high resale price for quite some time.
With the dollar's fall over time likely to continue, Porsche will have to re-set the price next year in the U.S. when the 991's come out, to reflect reality. So the new 911's next year could be in the $125-150K range, which would price many out of the market and keep the demand for used 997's high.....and in the 60-80K range for a long time..

In the last couple of months there have been a couple of black 09 C2s for sale with low mileage, but these started in the 80s. If you want an S and/or a 4 version, given your budget, you will definitely have to go stateside. If our interest rates go up on Tuesday that will help your cause. I would look in Oregon as there are a number of great dealers and no state sales tax which simplifies the deal and shortens the drive. Obviously CA has lots of good product. As Larry suggested, I would stick to P-car dealers and get something with a CPO, in this way you should be able to get a car with significant warranty coverage (> 4 years).

I think I'll head out to MCL motor cars to see what they'll do off sticker for a brand new 2012 Black edition. Only the black edition because $2000 for the added options over the base seems like a deal, though I'm not a fan of the number plate on the dash or the steering wheel for that matter. If they'll do low $90s with PDK and sport chrono I'll have my first P-car.

It has to be the toughest time to get a bargain on the used market . For what its worth I even got a good trade in on my M3 and with that I wonder if guys trading in their Porsches are facing higher trade in values (I;m keeping mine so I don't know). If not .. then I feel they should.
Narrowing it down to used black/black PDK c2S I see only two cars listed which looked ok . One is in California and the other is in Florida , Both are 2010 cars in the 90's . At that price I just can't see buying a used car especially adding both travel and shipping .
I even looked at Turbos bdecause at 90+ K why not ? Again no black cars which I liked . I tried dark blue .. no cars . I tried Silver .. one or two looked nice but they are manual . I rejected automatic Tiptronics in the light of PDK.
So that leaves you exactly where you are .. looking at new cars in your local area .
Just a piece of sincere advice ... take it or leave it...
don't rush to buy a car if you don't love it . It's better to buy no car and save the money than to buy the wrong car.
good luck.
PS . I happen to like the black edition . I happen to like black Porsches .

I looked at a black edition a couple of months ago at MCL, the car had limited options, but did have the PSE and PDK. They were asking around $105K and there wasn't a lot of room for negotiating as the market for both new and used Porsches has been pretty hot. Weissach always seems to have great cars, but MCL prices seem pretty comparable and you get the CPO.
