PDK clutch smell
PDK clutch smell
Hey guys,
After some tuning of the DME on my 997.2 C2S I have made some serious gains.
However, after spirited driving and I believe when I engage sports plus there is a burnt clutch smell clearly evident after I get out of the car.
What are the PDK clutches rated too ? in terms of torque ?
Has anyone had a problem after modification of a burnt clutch smell ?
I will have to revise the TUN file and pull some timing out of it...
I don't fancy replacing parts on a PDK ?

I doubt you are smelling the PDK clutches. At the PCA Sebring 48hrs race I was in the Speed Merchants pits and talking with them because they race a 2009 PDK Carrera S. Speed Merchants sells all sorts of upgrades and so forth so I was asking them about racing the PDK and I expected they would have some sort of upgrade they would try to sell me. I found out that they took their PDK apart to look at the clutches and replace them after about 3 years of racing and DE's. They said the PDK cluches looked like new so they just replaced the fluid and put it all back together. PDK is strong and it shifts so perfectly there is not the wear you would get on the PDK clutches like you get on the manual 6 speed clutches.
I also talked with the head tech at Suncoast Porsche who has done PDK work before and he agrees the clutches do not wear like you would think they do.

It is possible that the software changes allow the clutches to slip to enhance acceleration. My understanding is that the turbo model with PDK allows the clutches to slip to increase initial response when accelerating. I am not talking about launching the car but when the car is already underway ( eg. 40 mph) and you hit the gas.
