chi4s,
It may solve your problem.
This is what I've been doing on my cabin filtered cars for the last 15 years & the last 5 years on the Porsche. So far no smelly A/C problem. In late spring (end of the heavy pollen season) & early fall (end of the heavy mold season) I change the filter. With the filter out I wipe down all the surfaces that filter comes in contact with or that I can reach in the A/C "intake" area. For the Porsche filter area you have a flat tray on the right side & a flap w/ a round throat on the left. I use a micro fiber cloth that is sprayed damp with Lysol. With the filter out I turn on the A/C spray the Lysol in the A/C intake. Dry off the intake area & install the filter. Go for a 5 mile drive w/ the A/C on full blast. I know this may be over kill but we run our A/C about 350 days a year & so far so good.
Last year I helped a friend of mine on his '09 Porsche with a wet A/C filter (how & why?). The filter & filter tray had had all sorts of bio-hazard growing on it. I thought we were going to have to wear hazmat moon suits. We cleaned it up & he has been fine ever since.

Did the replacement install...maybe OP can add up front for 997.2...torx 30 is the tool...the diagram shows it but it is hard to understand (4 me) what it is showing and until you get it out or use a flashlight it is hard to see it but there is a plastic retainer on the right side that should be flipped to the right to make the filter come out on the uninstall. From what I can tell, there is no reason NOT to use the AutohausAz part as it is the right part and it costs what air filters should cost...hurrah to na011!
