AC controls

The soft touch AC controls for fan speed and temp are heavily worn/melted on the carrera (997) that I just picked up. Any recommendation on how to fix/repaint the AC controls?

I tried using Miwax Stain marker in Ebony but didn't work the way I wanted. Another suggestion was using Testors but, in the end, I took a good old-fashioned Sharpie black magic marker and it worked well enough. I fixed the A/C blower icon for the fan speed but didn't use anything for comparison so it would have come out better had I done so. I did some touch ups and nobody notices, except me of course. The touch up areas were small so, though they look a bit shinier than the original areas, it's not so noticeable and looks as if some drops of soda were there. I think my soda is what actually caused it. Overall, I am satisfied with the Sharpie method and I may even black out the fan speed completely later on if I can't live with the way the design looks now, altered from its original form. Take a picture first and use it as a guide and you won't have this issue. Good luck!

The alternative was buying a $600 panel from the dealer as the buttons are not sold separately. Then you'd have to have it coded. All that for a worn button on an otherwise perfectly functioning control panel!

Do a search, this subject has been discussed numerous times. It's the oil from the fingertips or hand moisturizer, my GF never touches the buttons so I know it's not nail polish. I tried the Magic Marker but IMO it looked worse. Ended up having both fan and AC buttons replaced under warranty, including parts and labor it was >$600.
