Sunroof wind noise

When my sunroof is open I seem to get a lot of wind noise and wind buffeting. My car is a 997.1 C2S. It doesn't seem to have an air deflector like my BMW that pops up when opened and deflects air up and over the opening thus keeping things quiet with no buffeting. I think this would be standard equipment with a sunroof. Am I missing something? At highway speeds its difficult to carry a conversation with all the wind noise.

Interesting... I have mine open a lot and I actually seem to think its slightly quieter than my other 2 cars.

There is a tiny wind deflector that pops up. If you look at my avatar youll see this jagged tooth like ridge on the roof. Thats what I assumed was the deflector.

The buffeting, in my experience, is more likely to happen if you open the sunroof "all the way" (i.e. pressing the button again after the sunroof opens up to the first stop position and getting it to scoot a bit further back some more).

I carpool with someone and I open the sunroof almost daily now. I havent noticed buffeting or exceptionally loud wind noise that prevents conversations. Dont get me wrong, the wind noise is there and I do need to talk louder.

In general, and you probably already know, you can easily get rid of the buffeting by cracking any window down a bit (like 1 cm) and relieve the pressure built up in your cabin. This also helps my precisely coiffed hair from getting disturbed.

I am almost positive that I do not have what I am seeing in your avatar. I will take a closer look to see if it is stuck and prevented it from deploying. I would ride with it open all the time if it wasn't for the noise. In my BMW its hardly noticeable noise wise when its open. Thanks for the reply!

The sunroof is pitiful . 8 Porsches and i may have opened it once only to see what you are describing but I am not a sunroof person in general . I don't like wind and road filfth blown all over me and the cabin of my car and don't even like opening the windows.

Ditto on the turbulence noise. I don't use it.. I do pop the back open on occasion to help move the A/C through the car, but I would gladly have bought the car with a sunroof delete if it had been offered.

I love my sunroof and use it often but...

Aside from the noise, i notice the rear headliner buffets violently with the sunroof open and driving over 40 mph. Has anyone ever experienced a ripped headliner or other wear issues due to this?

I had the dealer take a look at this very issue (I posted the same concern a few weeks ago) and they said it was normal. In addition to the noise I'm concerned about crud and stuff ending up lodged between the roof and headliner.

And coincidentally the entire sunroof mechanism jammed and the interior panel became detached during the test drive. So back it goes for an entire sunroof rebuild.
