Stranger Than Fiction: My New GTS Tire Was Impaled by This Thing

Hello Guys,

I was driving home on HWY 1 this last week and my TPMS warned me of a flat rear tire. So I pulled over and filled it with more air and limped home. Looked like a big fat roofing nail at the time.

Called Porsche Roadside Assistance, and Chaz Towing out of Watsonville showed up the next morning with a proper articulated flat bed, super pro as you can see from the picture. The driver was a car guy as well, and we had a few laughs on the way to Porsche of Fremont for a tire change.

As shown in the pictures below, you can see that the rear tire was impaled by an
Autolite spark plug!

Happy ending: the guys at Porsche of Fremont, Gunter Feldmeier (service) and Scott Zencius (parts) were super responsive, and located a new Pirelli P-Zero in Los Angeles and had it sent overnight....and my tire and wheel insurance, Auto Knight, paid for the very expensive rear tire.......And, of course my car and I are OK as well.........thanks again to Porsche of Fremont !

Stories like this make the wheel/tire insurance seem oh so worth it.

...so does this mean someone is driving around with one less spark plug, lol?

What are the odds of hitting that plug at the optimum angle to penetrate the tire?

Wow, I am glad that I got Autoknight when I picked up my car.

BTW, did you get any paperwork mailed to you from Autoknight after the sale?

had a six inch socket extension poked through the tire, with just the fat end that goes to the ratchet sticking out.

Ive heard alot of stories before. But this is the first time I heard you have to take the tires off to change the spark plugs.

I've seen some weird things, screwdriver, a kitchen paring knife, but the all time most bizarre was in Burkina Faso- a tooth. A human molar punctured the damn near bald rear tire on a Toyota Hi Luxe. It was Africa, so of course they just patched it and on our way we went.

I just experienced the same with industrial use staple! These low profile tires seem to be delicate.

Ouch! That's almost like someone pulling a tooth out and jamming it through their foot! Glad the tire was easily replaced.
