Well, as you all know that being a car enthusiast can be quite a hard task with people around who like to daily commute in accords, camrys, impalas, etc. etc. - You get my point.
Every time i sit in my car(s), it is an event for me and i like to make the most of it. It is the only time when i think that life is too short.
I am one of those who will just go out in the evening for a 50 mile drive to relieve myself of any kind of stress.
My work commute is about 12 miles one way 5 days a week. I bought my Infiniti in 2008 and today it has 82k miles. I know it's alot. But that's what brings a smile to my face.
But my ******bag friends, get in my head and have always given me a hard time, as if i am some kind of an idiot, about the amount of miles i put on my car.
I bought my 911 on march 26th this year. Since then, i have put about 2500 miles on it. I thought that was nothing. Talking to my brother in law yesterday - he asked me about how much i had driven and i told him. He is like - - WOW!!!. I am like WTF? That is nothing.
To cut the long story short, people are going to keep telling you that you drive too many miles on a car. Honestly, i cannot live with driving only 5 miles a day. Eff that!!!
So i am guessing, if one buys a porsche, they can afford the Tires, brakes, maintenance (although not that expensive) etc. etc. Although i am hoping that i can keep my usage less than 12k a year - i now it's not gonna happen.

People end up driving their cars like 20k miles in 4 years and then they want to sell the car for the same price that they bought it for. IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN. So if i drove my car 70k miles in the same time my friend drove his same car 20k miles and both cars are worth the same at the end of the day - WHO'S THE DADDY?

Sorry, i might have sounded kinda ranty, but this thread just gave me an opening to vent.

I also enjoy putting miles on the car - bought it brand new and just went past 50,000 miles. It is NOT my daily driver, yet I drive it as much as I can. most of the miles were miles to "no where".

The car is maintained to fanatical levels, both cosmetically and mechanically. does it have some paint chips etc.? sure - I consider them badges of honor! It is NOT a trophy and gives me far more enjoyment driving it rather than keeping it perfect sitting in the garage. The interior is still perfect and still has that great porsche smell.

I could be wrong but I think time will cause more wear than miles.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah sometimes I think a ding or two looks kind of tough on the car. But then other times I get kind of down about a paint chip or a ding.

Its like aging - you can't reverse it

I need to accept it and embrace it and just roll with it

My car has 34k miles.. I wonder if it will have 40k by fall.

I feel the pain i am a stickler about miles as well. Certain mile are like stepping stones for the car, but german engineered cars last forever. I had an 07 M5 bought with 20 miles drover it for 75k no problem aside from normal maintenance. I just got a 2008 turbo with 10k and enjoying ever mile!!!!

I agree with Larry, 50K miles and above will be considered a lot. Although it means nothing in terms of reliability. It means a lot in resale. Many people will avoid Porsche's with those miles. They will pay a few thousands more for less mileage. Now if you don't plan on selling it (like me), you have nothing to worry about. Just enjoy it.

Throw a clear bra on the front if you are worried about the stone chips and minor dings, it will protect it!

I have 76000 miles on my car. Bought it at 22000 4 years and 3 months ago.

Have loved every mile

Up until a few weeks ago it was trouble free.

Clutch replaced a year ago due to valet abuse.
Recently. Air oil separator went causing the rms to leak. Replaced the ims at the time.

Water pump was also replaced but now pretty much the major things have been covered and I'll continue to enjoy it.

I used to think the same way with my previous two Porsche's. Both total garage queens, low mileage when I traded them, etc ... but my current one? Forget it ... I've started driving it every day (at least for the summer). You work hard and put the money into these cars to enjoy them. As a previous poster stated, cars are terrible investments. By not driving them, you're basically hoping to maintain a slightly elevated value, but at the expense of you not enjoying the car.

I plan on enjoying the hell out my car until my warranty expires in 2015. I'll worry about it's monetary value then. In the mean time, the value lies in the enjoyment I get out of driving it and of course, perma-grin.

My C4S is only 4 months old, have already put 6,000+ miles on it, lol.
Bought is as a dd, found we can't stop thinking of excuses to take it on roadtrips. Not concerned about miles, future value, etc... bought it to drive and love every minute of it - have been smiling ever since. Not worried about the next guy.

Love every moment in the car & drive it daily, 20-30k miles a year is fine. As long as its under warranty.

When Ive traded previous cars after 3 or so years I haven't lost much.

My last car was an Audi RS4 I had for 3 years, I had 90k kms, about 65k miles(I think)
They said Id get more for it if I hadn't used it as much. Basically I had tracked it 15 times a year, driven it every day and enjoyed every moment.
I asked how much more Id get if it only had like 10-20k miles, they said another $10k. Remember though it was $160k car here in Oz. So percentage wise it was not all that much.
Well I reckon I got my moneys worth from doing the extra millage.
