Well, went back? Had M3's and went back to one. I've had the last 3 genearations of them now. The 997S was a great ride, but the kids are getting bigger and the M3 is a much more versatile car. I'm missing the torque and of course the beautiful Porsche tranny, but otherwise the new M3 is an awesome car. Thought I'd share some pics:

beautiful car, problem with M3's is you can't throw a stone around here without hitting about three of them...

that said there are 2 R8's, a lambo, and about 4 porsche's in the parking lot also.

The M3 seems to be by far the most popular performance car in this area.

 

Love the red with carbon, if I wasn't in a Porsche, the M would be my next choice.

I've had a total of 5 M3s (through 3 generations) after a number of pre-kid 911s. I'm at the other end of the continuum now with both boys driving their own cars which is why I'm back in a 911. If I do go back to BMW it will be for the M3 in what ever generation that happens to be. They have always been great fun as a daily driver.
