I just got back from driving a pristine '06 997S with only 11,XXX miles. It has full natural leather interior, white exterior, sport chrono, manual trans., power seat package and PSM. Owner is wanting $58,500. If the PPI and DME read out come up OK, is that a fair price in today's market?

 

i bought a similarly equipped 06 C2S with 4600 miles for just under that last year. Certainly not a bad deal and you will not regret it if you get it. Make sure you're familiar with the limitations of 997.1 PCM (eg it is not cheap to work in an aux input for satellite radios/ipods etc). Moving up to a 2008 gets you a 997.2 with the minor but effective exterior changes and an easier-to-fiddle-with PCM. Just my thoughts.

 

If I am not mistaken the 997.2 came out in 2009 not 2008.

The one I'm looking at already has satellite radio. Clear bra and super sprint exhaust as well.

I just sold my '87 911 this week so this was by far the newest 911 I've ever driven. I had read about how they are too refined and how you get very little feedback from the steering and handling. I gotta say I thought it handled incredibly well. The car felt very tight (no rattles) and the low end torque was much better than I thought it would be.

 

^ I happen to simultaneously own both an '87 Coupé and a 2006 Carrera S. I know what you're experiencing! The 997 is a great all around car.

 

I'm sure other's that have been more up to date on the market will chime in here (and correct me if I'm wrong), but that price seems a little on the high side (especially coming from a private sale and not a CPO car from a dealer).

Well -- the market is high . There once was a time when an 06 car was in the low 50's and now the wholesale pricing places it 48-52K .

I'd offer the 52K if it all checks out and you'll probably close at 54.5 .

For reference, I got my 2006 C4s with full leather, PSE, Sport Chrono, all the other normal goodies, 10,xxx miles for right at the same price (in April this year) Had been searching for over a year for this exact set of options. So in my opinion, if it has everything you want and it is a clean car, the price is good. If you have to compromise on either options or conditions, I would offer a price similar to yrralis mentioned and walk if they won't negotiate. With that said, in my book, the perfect car is normally worth a few extra grand.

Economy must be coming back

 

It probably isn't the economy getting better. It's just supply and demand. More people were giving up their cars in 09 and 10, and they sold less new high end cars. Less new cars mean less used cars and higher prices.

 

For reference, I got my 06 C2S with 24k miles CPO, full leather, sport chrono, psm, sport shifter, nav, heated seats, bose, carrera sport wheels for ~56k OTD from a dealer, so I think that may be a little high.

 

Another data point, my 06 C2S was bought in May. 65K miles, no CPO, full leather, sport shifter, chrono, heated power seats, bose, carrera classics, nav, painted console, and X51 power kit, 6 speed, clear bra, clean PPI. $42K.

Where is "Excellence" magazine getting price data from? They seem veery low at $36K-42K for a 2006 S, although I have seen a few go in the mid $30K range.
