I was thinking the same thing - that he either left off a "1" before the "25" or a "0" after the "25". In any case, good luck and please heed our advice - stay clear of the stock market right now.
Greetings to everyone for one final time, this will likely be my last post on this forum. I just sold my car yesterday and I'm probably heading back to "Mazda land" where I came from. More about that later but I would like to pass on some knowledge which may prove quite valuable to some of you. Here's my story:...
Re. 911s. It may very well happen that you will get another in the future and it may not be a 991, as there will be many pre-owned (low miles) 997s available for years to come. If you feel that your old Miata gave you 95% of the fun you goy from your 997.2, you are into fun driving cars... the 991 will be a superb performer, but I bet less fun.
P.S. - Thanks for your compliment. I just say it like I see it.
My answer to your 2nd question - most definitely. If I was making a jump from a C2 and had the chance (and capability) to get into an RS or something, I'd do it for the passion and satisfaction of the driving experience.
Still, if one was worried about losing tens of thousands on depreciation, buy used. I know a few ppl that love p-cars, but are always a generation behind. I think it's great they found a way/the means to join the cause
I took delivery of my 911 Carerra base model in October of 2009 it was one of the first 2010's shipped to the US.
I'm a $25K/year salesman and I also have to pay for my own health insurance. I saved for 15 years to buy my Porsche.
I sold it back to a Porsche dealer for $73K after owning it for almost 2 years!!!
I'm taking 50K of my 73K and putting it right back to work in the stock market. I'm going to use the rest to finance some projects for my home such as updating the kitchen and ordering some top quality Ethan Allen furniture for my living room.
BTW, am i the only one with problems with the numbers?
1- u make less than $25k/year, yet u saved for 15 years
to buy a porsche.. then give it up for some Ethan Allen furniture and to invest (is that even the right word?
) $50k into the stock market ?? 2- a Porsche dealership cut u a check for $73 k on a used 2010 base carrera with miles ??
Thanks for sharing OP. I can only read your post with envy, hoping I'll do as well as you did when it comes time to sell mine.
A related question. What if the 991 turned out to be a dud? While 996 wasn't a dud, its "failed design" made it worth less than the 993 that precede it. I realized 993 is unique as the last air cooled car, but there is always that chance 997 may become a collector's car, and hold its value down the line.
Or so I can dream....

That story sounds like pure baloney to me.
1) A guy making 25K a year.....
2) Selling his Porsche back for almost the same price, 2 years later....
3) going back to Mazda Miata after driving a 911......
4) investing $50K in a bull market, which everybody knows is about to go belly up for good.
5) buying designer furnitures....
Well, let's face it. If the fella was disappointed with his car or wanted to walk away from Porsche, so be it. No need to write an entire story about this.
Interesting for sure, but hard to believe.

Good luck OP, I enjoyed the read. I won't critise your situation or your salary as others have done on this forum. To each their own. I can only hope to recover a decent amount of money from my C2 when the time comes. I wish you luck in your future endeavours and hope that you'll be back (although Miata's are fantastic cars).
To the OP --
I took the attached photo a couple months ago. As usual, Willie S. gives great advice, if you know where to look... in this case, on the back of a Mazda
Best of luck in the transition!

Toyota. Good thing I didn't make a joke about joining the ranks of high school English teachers!
It's still a sweet message though... I guess some guys just can't be constrained by 8 spaces on a vanity plate.
