997 won't shift into gear
I have a recurring transmission issue on my '05 997 C2S tiptronic.
On a cold start, the transmission will sometimes refuse to go into gear. I can move the shifter into all the shift notches, but nothing happens. I've tried using the shifters on the steering wheel, but that doesn't work either.
When I progressively step on the throttle, the car seems like it might go into gear. If I step hard on the throttle, it forces the gear to engage and I hear a loud grind and the car lurches forward.
This happens maybe once every eight times I start the car. The rest of the time, it's fine.
Has anyone experienced this? What could be causing this and what could be a solution?

I would suggest to check system for faults - guided fault finding - check transmission pressure - check battery voltage to control unit - check signal from shifter to tip control unit. It could be number of things...
Take it to the dealer near you or someone who have access to check all these things. there are certain things that needs to be check.

997 wont shift into gear
Aloha,
I know its an old post but did you ever figure out what was wrong with your transmission?? I have very similar symptoms on my 06 997 now. On my in just all of a sudden just came out of gear when i was doing about 15 mph. I pulled over and when the gear shifter(triptronic) is in gear it stars to make a little grinding sound like its going into gear but not quiet there. I towed it back how and been trying to figure it out. Took out the center console to get down to the gear shifter to verify the cable going between the trans and shifter was not broken and its not unfortunately
When someone moves the shifter into gear and im under the car I can clearly see the lever going into the trans and moving freely so now searching around to see if anyone else had same problems.... I changed out my axle boots a month ago and had to take each shaft out to do this but I dont think this could have any effect on this situation. I have 65k miles. Just wondering if you ever figured out what was wrong with yours?? Mahalo!
