Easy ramps to make for around the garage.

Hey guys. I forgot to post some pics of the ramps I made. Here's the process.

1. Buy 1 2"x10"x12' treated board.
2. Set your circular saw or whatever you use to a 45 degree angle.
3. Cut the 12 footer in half.
4. Then cut a 3 footer, 2 footer, and 1 footer on both of those using the same 45 degree angle.
5. Stack them as the picture shows. Use would screws to screw the 2nd to the 1st, then the 3rd to the 2nd.

Hope someone can use this.

Forgot to mention. These will get you approximately 5.5 inches off the ground. Plenty to change oil and change mufflers etc. Enjoy.

Yikes! Are you going to put a wheel stop on the last one? My biggest fear is driving off the end of the ramp. Especially backward!!

That's why I'm always fine using floor jacks (mini and then a 2 ton if clearance is vtoo low to get the larger one in position initally) and putting the car on jackstands while working underneath.

You need to cut another piece of wood to protrude up a couple of inches from the tire resting surface to act as a tire stop.

Would hate run off the back end of your ramps.

ps. Rhino ramps for $30 or so also work.

It is not fun driving off a setup like this. I did it once.

I have no fear of nor experience driving off the back of these.
Call me crazy. You have a contact patch of about 3 inches and 1 foot of board.

Thanks Fred for the input.
I just can't see paying thousands of dollars for structural foam.

I also happen to have a piece of wood just like the OP spec'd!

Thanks for the super tip Recalcitrant!
I have some Rhino Ramps, but I am going to see if I can make a 4" ramp so I can back up onto the Rhino ramps, and have the 4" under the rocker area. When I back up, the rhino should get me 10" or so, the wood should get me a 4"lift of the front.... I could always use the extra room under the nose.

Thanks fred for clarifying!

I looked at the RR pit stops last year, and those were the ones I was talking about. It is the only product they make that is not approximated by the Rhino Ramp and a few scraps of wood. I would love to have one of the pit stop set-ups and I could find a use for them probably every month.

If you see one used for 50-60% off, let me know. I might pick up a set!

Of course, you could buy a real pneumatic lift (or, portable one for that matter) for the same money as a bunch of foam.........

No worries. Glad to share. I like Fred's products. Just have 12 bucks in these and they do the trick just fine. I don't work on the car much. It doesn't break!

I started making my homemade ramps this morning and was a few feet short with the lumber! (off to home depot....)

I don't want to be a thread-jacker, but here is a neat P.S.:

BTW, here is the lift that a friend of mine just put in his garage. It has an MSRP of $2500, it ships for free, and he stores it in his closet. It DOES need to attach to a floor with 6 bolts, so I don't think it will work track-side. I've seen it for around $2K earlier in the year!

Note: I edited the pic to remove part of the phone number per forum rules!
