Best bang for the buck?

I want to pick up an extra set of tires & wheels for use at the track for autocross and DE events.

Which tires are the best for this purpose for the price? I understand there will be a difference between the top of the line competition tires and the lower priced ones. Thats OK, I just want something that is a decent performer, gets decent wear at the track and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

For the Price I think Forgestar F14 are very track worthy.. RE 11's? There not available in my size I tried Kumho's V710's great but track only and forget heavy downpours

OZ ultraleggera's is another good choice at a decent price. Avoid customer forged wheels, they usually cost a premium.

Thanks for the info on wheels, but I'm primarily interested in recommendations for tires.

You said tires and wheels. No expert here and not going to act like one. I track 4 times a year at most and usually use OEM tires (not recommended) PS2's are expensive. Michellin Pilot Super Sport is cheap but still expensive compared to other brands like Nitto's.

FWIW I used RE-11s on my C4S with good results. Mine is a DD averaging 15K/yr with 12+ track days. Alignment at F: -2.3, 1/16th toe out per side, R: -2.0 1/8 toe in per side - rears lasted ~8K, fronts still going strong. On track I'm going 31/33 cold, 36/38 hot (much above 42 and the rears get a little greasy) net the following average track times: Sears - 2:08s, ButtonWillow 2:14s, Thunderhill 2:10s - not blistering but not holding anyone up. Yes they're heavy but they also (for me) yield a better street ride than the MPS2s. I ran these on a fully built STi for a number of years - same HP, same weight, and AWD - with equally great results.

Next year it's dedicated DE/TT wheels but until then ...
