My new car
My new car
Greetings from Cape Town! Let me start by saying what an awesome site. It made my next car of choice very easy. I’ve had a Cayman S Sport, number 004 in White, for 2 years now and it wasn’t easy trading it in but when I saw this 997 Meteor Grey with Cocoa leather interior I just fell in love. Porsche CT gave me a good trade in price and also let me swop the PSE that was on the car for a full Tubi system, there was a car in the showroom with this system and once I heard it I had to have it. So I’ve been driving the 997 for 2 weeks now and all I can say is WOW! It took me while getting used to the rear engine feel coming from a mid-engine but once I put faith in the car it just felt amazing like it was on railway tracks. I couldn’t believe how much grip it had. You can get into a Cayman and feel like you can take any corner at any speed, it feels that good, but with a 997 it just takes a while getting used to. Also, the 997 felt more handmade then the Cayman. I’m saying this because when I got into the 997 I felt more in tune with the engine then with the Cayman. It’s hard to explain.
Anyway, it’s an amazing car and I couldn’t believe I was thinking of getting a M3 instead. Enjoy the photos and the video link in Youtube. If the link doesn’t work just type in “Porsche 911 Tubi Exhaust” and it’s on the second page. Take a look at my other vids. Enjoy and thanks!

I just got a 997S cab a few weeks ago and had a similar experience. Comparing the 997 with the Boxster and Cayman, the handling of the latter two felt more "natural" to me, whereas the 997 felt a little weird, especially the lightness of the front end under acceleration. But after increasing driving, the 997 is now the one beginning to feel natural to me, and I'm learning to trust its grip. As I gain confidence, I'm tossing the car around harder and harder, and I've yet to get even any tire squeal, much less noticeable slip. Of course, I'll need to go to the track to better explore the limits.
We also looked at an M3 convertible, which is nice, but just not in the same league as the 997. I'm so glad we went with the 997!
Hi Everyone
Thanks for the kind words. I wasn't sure I wanted to buy a new car but I think it was the colour combo that made me buy it with no hesitation. Driving on the left had side of the road is very easy. It's intersections where you have to be careful, you don’t want to be turning into the wrong side of the road. But the most annoying thing is you often get into the passenger side, put on your seatbelt and realise there is no steering wheel to grab onto.
I did that a few times in front of a bar and it was very embarrassing. About the exhaust system, only in the last few year’s buyers in South Africa have been allowed to install Tubi and Akropovic exhausts. Before that you would have lost your motorplan. Any other exhaust, except Techart, weren’t allowed. Now buyers are importing systems and Porsche are installing them. Our dealers are pushing Akropovic and Tubi because they say they are the best but I’m sure there are other systems just as good. Doesn’t make any sense to me
. I hate politics anyway. Thanks again guys.

What an incredible sound coming from your car. Every time I hear a car like yours, I get an inch closer to buying one for my car. I'm not sure if Tubi makes an exhaust for the TTS.
Enjoy the car in good health.
