Broken AC vent?

Hey guys. Did a quick search and didn't anything. So I'll take the easy route. My vent on the left of the steering wheel doesn't move the air left and right. Looks as if it has become disconnected from the piece behind it. Anybody every replace/fix one of these? Thanks in advance.

I just replaced my center and left side vents due to cracks in the silver trim. While not hard to remove, they can be frustrating to wrestle out without damaging. If yours has become "disconnected" it should be a simple fix and may not even require removal.

The "****" that adjusts the vent air flow to the left and right has nothing more than a thin stalk at the rear. The thin round stalk fits into a friction fit hole on the vent fins that pinches the stalk. Its all plastic and over-engineered, but really simple to see how it works. I would look in the vent with a flashlight and see if you can use a needle nose plier to get everything connected again.

I'll take another look and give it a shot. Thanks.

Have the same problem and have been living with it for awhile. The dealer just wants to replace the entire vent assembly for a nice price.

I've heard the pin that comes loose can actually fall out. I'm afraid mine is long gone sucked away by some vacuum during a car wash.

I checked my broken vent as well to see if I can reconnect it and the the thin stalk connected to the adjustment **** has been lost.

Decent Inexpensive Fix

Here’s a decent inexpensive fix for a 997 with broken AC vent direction levers (left/right).

Made a little clip to attach to the left/right fins for easy adjustment.

Got this on Amazon for $12, cut the posts, and used the rubber protectors on the ends.

Clipped it towards the top of the vent.

The post is cut short enough so the tip is all that sticks out. Just point it left/right where you need the air. This doesn’t restrict the up/down that much. Still very usable.

Isn’t an eyesore and looks decent for $12 and 20 minutes.
