Road Debris

I was driving on 249 feeder road. There was this 12"x12"x1" thing in the middle of the lane. It looked like a piece of a boat, like a cover panel for something. I was going to drive over it like all the cars in front of me. 20-30 yrds way from it, an SUV switched lanes, drove over that panel, which kicked it up, and spent it spinning at my car. Here is the aftermath.

What do you guys think? Is it fixable or do I need a new bumper? Any body shop recommendations in the Houston area? Thanks for the replies.
-Peter

Fixable. A good wax might remove some of the scuff. Paint thinner will also take and any paint transfer.
Rapid Body Works in Spring is the only Porsche certified repair in the area. They do great work.

I hate to say it, but you may be looking at a new bumper. It would be easier to tell in person, but that looks like a pretty good gouge in the material. Not sure if that could ever be made right - better to go with a new part. Save your documentation.

Sorry to hear about this. I have had a few close calls as well with stuff on the road. Not sure of a good shop in Houston since I am in DFW.

Gouge looks pretty deep. I would look at replacing the bumper, a half-*** repair job/bondo will just bother you down the line if not done perfectly.

I'm surprised no one said "it will buff right out"

I hate road debris......i had a bad run in with some "steel" item sitting in the highway in the middle of the night. Caused 15k in damage all in undercarriage..nothing was visible from looking at the car, just the wheel well liner looked a little tore up. It took a chunk out of the subframe and damaged wheel, suspension etc... Disaster also tore up about 20+ cars tires.

we were smacked in our Audi a few weeks ago by something that hopped straight at us from the other side of the freeway. It looked like a hockey puck and it happened so fast there was not time to react. It smacked the windshield right where my wife's head was. Huge smack sound but the glass held. Got home and there was a large rubber streak where it hit but that was it. Some type of wheel I guess.

Hopefully the adjuster doesn't notice your jammers. Some companies will drop you or non-renew for these devices.

it's totally fixable but compare that vs the cost of a new bumper.
