2012 Porsche 911: This is it
My GTS will be in my garage for a long time...and I'm going to enjoy every day I have driving it.
Here are my thoughts on the new 991:
1. Front end looks OK, but I think my 997.2 looks better
2. Back end I don't like at all!! Disjointed looking seams/lines everywhere, especially around the spoiler. The spoiler may be bigger and more effective but I think it looks ugly. And I don't like the smaller taillights.
3. Side view looks OK.
4. Interior looks OK. I think that there are too many center console buttons too close to the gearshift **** when it is forward in 7th gear (I assume it will be up and away in the manual shift pattern).
5. Lastly, all the new technical improvements I think are a WIN/WIN. Who doesn't like more HP and better gas mileage. And I think the slightly longer wheelbase will be a plus for overall handling stability and the increased interior room. Those who think it is becoming a GT car need not worry - I am sure the Panamera-based 928 replacement will fill that role.
Overall, from the pictures, I am a little disappointed with the overall look of the car compared to the 997.2, but I am sure it will grow on me, especially after I see one in person. I will be happy to keep my 997.2 for several more years

Looks like a Panamera w/o rear doors. Mind you that's not all that bad just a bit too sedan looking.
I'll pass on the 991 in favor of a 2011 997.2.

But it's the front end that turns me off the most. First of all, it just looks too 'bulbous'. I was expecting a much more toned & refined look, closer to the 918 front end than the Panamera. It just needs to be tighter and firmer in it's lines as opposed to all of the roundness that I see.
some remarkable comment (user: cjasis) from another car forum (not Porsche in particular) about the new 991.
I don`t know if he is a member on here as well, great comment!
I'm a current 997s owner and I love the re-design. I have my fingers crossed that Porsche hasn't completely jumped the shark with the electric steering but I think I'm safe in saying that Porsche realizes how important steering feel is to the majority of 911 buyers.
Nearly every Porsche owner that I know (and that's a lot... thank you PCA) is well aware that there are several other alternatives which are quicker, cheaper, put up more impressive g's on the skid pad, etc. and to be blunt... we don't care. We like our Porsches to look like Porsches. We like them to put visceral driving experience at the top of the list and don't care that magazine racers the world over are faster in some hypothetical drag race that we aren't going to participate in. We auto cross or track our supposed toys and love the way they handle and drive in our hands. We're not Ayrton Senna and realize we're never going to be. We just plain love driving.
I looked long and hard at the GT-R, for example, when I bought my 911. On paper it's a much, much better drive. I wanted so badlly to like it but I didn't. It's really stupid quick. No doubt. But it left me cold. For example, I know that the dual clutch tranny in that Nissan is much faster and better than I will ever be but I don't care. I like that fact that I don't get every heel/toe downshift right because when I do.. it's awesome. And that's the magic of Porsche for me.
In the end, vote with your own $. If you prefer the Nissan or the Corvette (and notice I'm not saying anything bad about either of those choices as they are excellent cars in their own right) then buy those. For me, I love Porsches and I'm glad to see that the wizards in Germany are listening to those of us who actually do open our wallets and don't just spit nonsense in an internet forum.

Probably a redundant post after a quick scan of what has already been said...but...
I love the profile view.
Seems more-or-less like a 997.2 from the front...and that's a good thing IMO.
Not enamored of the rear.
Hate the interior.
Relieved that it's not only NOT heavier but actually lighter.
Happy to have a 997 and am more interested in a GTS-4.
Now, the big question (for me at least), will they bother to make a 991 Targa?

I feel very much the same. While I could live with the rear styling, I do think it's a little too bland with much too tall of a rear.
But it's the front end that turns me off the most. First of all, it just looks too 'bulbous'. I was expecting a much more toned & refined look, closer to the 918 front end than the Panamera. It just needs to be tighter and firmer in it's lines as opposed to all of the roundness that I see.

Spot on! My thoughts exactly.
Don't feel bad, in Canada the 991 C2 is $93,700 and the C2S is $110,000.
Never mind.....
....the more I look it, the more it's starting to grow on me...

Like this shot a lot.....
991 C2 - Base Price AUD$229,000 (US$238,000)
991 C2S - Base Price AUD$263,100 (USD$273,000)
I would take the Canadian price any day!!
