Warranty work twice in ten days
Warranty work twice in ten days
2009 911S coupe
Just got the car back this a.m. with two oxygen sensors and heat shields replaced.. The two sensors on the other side of the engine were OK but they installed the new shields as a precaution... The shields are a mod by Porsche installed at the time of repair. I don't have the work order on the car yet but they'll mail it to me so I can be more specific as to the work done.
Last week I had to have the HPFP replaced. Both repairs were initiated by the "check engine/return to work place" idiot lights on the dash.
Anybody else had the sensors replaced? Mileage is 5560. Bought the car new.
I'm almost to the point that if I have to take it in for another repair I'm just going to leave it there and drive a different car home... and I've been whining so much that my wife is in agreement. Do I see the letters GTS or Boxster Spyder in my future?????
The dealership has been great about taking care of the problems but I'm beginning to lose patience and faith in the car or maybe even the brand????

Have had my share of check engine lights (and other issues) over 19500 (or so miles). Had the HPFP and a Carbon Canister replaced last week; had program error in control units (May 2010); Had key fob stop working (No check engine light; April 2010);replace oil cap that lost it's seal (Aug 2010); Purge valve (associated with the Carbon Canister, tank vent valve (May 2010); Multiple faults in many control units -- all faults cleared (Jan 2010); install spacer FPR Exhaust Straps & Clamp kit (Jun 2009); PCM update (no check engine light; Jun 2009).
Love my car, but I think this will be the last time I buy a "Launch" edition.

I have put 180,000 miles on my 06 and have never had one problem with sensors.....
... Don't you love the guys that make those posts. You know, some OP is pulling his hair out because of a problem with oil consumption or the like and and there's the inevitable "gee, my car burns no oil ever" post. Ne way, I have replaced a couple of 02 sensors on my 06 in 30k miles. Not sure why that is but I will look into whether there is a heat shield retrofit on the .1 motor. What I don't get is why you'd want to replace an 09 with a gts because of this sort of thing. Same car pretty much without the hype, no? Of course if this is a plan to make your wife feel sorry for you until she lets you buy a new one.....Hmmm might just work.

two things
1. don't buy launch edition.
2. drive the car more. the car is now almost 3 years old and you've got 5k miles? every car has some sort of issue and if you don't drive to flush the bugs out, you'll be paying once the warranty is up. typically issues are done after 15k miles and then more surface around 75k miles.

When I bought the car I had no idea what a "launch car" was. I agree that putting a few more miles on it would highlight the shortcomings but jeez I've done all I can do to shake it down.
Things improved with the fuel pump replacement and then twenty miles later I'm headed back to the dealer....
I don't really want a GTS, hell I've got more car than I can handle with this one. This dealer has really stepped up the plate and taken care of me and the car. It's to a point that they don't want to see me come pulling in a service bay anymore...
As car as the launch car goes... It's all the same parts and pieces that went on the later batch of cars so I don't have a problem with that.
Looks like I'm doing my whining to you guys... I'll stop before you guys take my car away...
Thanks for the input...
The HPFP recall fixed the hesitation issue that I was having, but I guess i didn't know I had it until it was fixed.
Does that make sense?
Anyway, lots of cars have issues with O2 sensors and the related equipment.
I would lose faith if it goes on for 3-4 visits on still no fix. I mean, I've heard of people taking 3 visits to correct an oil overfill!
But seriously, my M3 had the engine rebuild-recall in 2002, the ignition coils failed, and had some other small issues. I still loved the car!
My S4 had ignition coil issues, fuel sender sensor failure, and a turbo failure.
I guess my point is, if you cruise over to a Lotus forum, you will kiss your porsche's hood every time you pass by it!! Any car can have a stumble, but it can still be worked out! So far, my car is same MY2009 as yours and it has been dead reliable for 18K miles!
