'06 C2 engine question

I am the proud owner of a '06 C2 that I purchased back in March. It's arctic silver with full coca leather, sport seats, 19" wheels, Nav and tiptronic, etc... It's got about 47k miles now. (I will post pics as soon as I can figure out how to do it) This is my first Porsche and I'm trying to learn as much as I can from this fantastic site. So here's my question: The car is a MY '06, but when I ran the vin through the atlanta website it came back to an M96.05. This concerns me as I've seen lots of scary posts about IMO and RMS failures on 996 engines. Are my assumptions correct?
It took moving heaven and earth to get the supreme leader to buy off on my indulging a life long dream. The last thing I need is a blown engine etc...I will never hear the end of it! Thanks very much

My 2007 C2 has the same engine code, but rest assured it has the beefier IMS bearing and the better motor. They use the 996 designation, but it is much improved over the original 996 motor.

I would agree, but it's certainly a lot of fun along the way.

+1000, I couldn't agree more. The engine went south in the first sports car I bought after getting married. I had to replace the entire engine and I still hear about it. If the Porsche pukes up an engine than I will be riding a bike for the rest of my days. To offset this possibility I just purchased a 5 year extended warranty.

The supreme leader knows nothing about cars and could care less about the car she drives. Which of course means she has no understanding why anyone (Me) wouldn't want to drive a corolla or a saturn. There is some paint work I want to have done which I know I'm going to have to do covertly. Oh well at least I finally have my 911. Took it out on old Mullholland dr in Calabasas today. Great fun. A true pleasure.

I have an '05 C2S & thinking about upgrading to the new LED lights. Can you give me a ballpark number for cost and from where? I promise not to disclose anything to any spouse.

I'm there with you. I love my wife dearly, but I could probably install a GT3 kit with a massive wing and she wouldn't notice, except for the bill.

Last night the warden and I are in the Porsche driving to dinner, I'm in 2nd keeping the Rvs high, (driving it like a Porsche!). We hit a few pot holes and cracks in the pavement, courtesy of LA City and I can feel the frustration growing in her. Finally she blurts out. "This car is not smooth...I hate this car!" Opting to poke the tiger a little more, I apply the gas. She says nothing. I blast past a couple of POS's on Canoga and I can see her grin ever so slightly. The discussion moves to our two teenaged vampires who cleverly pose as college students.
Fast forward to after dinner (with one Mojito on board) as we walk out to the car she says "Okay that car is pretty cool." I respond in the affirmative, knowing that I have won... at least until she changes her mind again.
