low oil pressure

Just got the low oil pressure warning and my car shut off. I have a 2007 911 C4S Cab. Took it to the dealer, how bad could this be?

Is this the warning message you got:

Engine oil pressure too low Stop immediately at a suitable place, measure
oil level with the on-board computer and, if necessary,
add engine oil.

What was your oil level? And who shut the car off - I didn't know the computer could do that.

If there is no oil the car could shut its self off not by a computer though

Engine sieze?? You would have thought there'd be more warnings before that happened.

That i my sentiment exactly. The car has no smell or leak it just turned off and refuses for the motor to start.

When i measured the oil it said it was low. before i took it in I called the service department and asked if i should just add oil. They said no just flatbed it in.

Do you guys have any experience with this? i Just do not want to hear about a big engine replacement bill.

I would expect the oil temperature would have gone to the 'red zone' if the oil level is below some value. If you didn't get an 'over temp' condition I suspect the 'oil fault' shouldn't result in a catastrophic engine issue.

Keep us posted.

ps. I know the elimination of oil dip sticks is in vogue (in favor of electronic sensing) but I for one really miss them.

I spoke to Cheech at Rennewerke, It is likely a oil pressure pump or senor of that kind. he said the 997 engines are not known to blow up. Also the low oil info might be faulty as i had put a liter of oil in the car on the third week of august; That combined with no smell or engine rattling or noise, in all likely hood equals a reasonable fix.

I feel much more relieved after speaking to someone in the know. I will tell you what Paul Miller tells me when they get back to me later today or tomorrow morning.

Thanks

Lovet

Oil Pressure Sensor

I have an issue with the Oil Pressure Sensor ('09 c4s 15k), at low rpm's the needle dives to dead and a Warning comes up: Oil Pressure Sensor not Operating. The oil level was fine and there is no issue above 1,500 rpm. Porsche will get the car and resolve the issue.

Any other 997.2 owners have an similar issue ?

Glad to hear it was relatively minor!
