ignitions

Wow, that is alot of ignitions all around. When I purchase my non-CPO'd '07 997, it had about a hundred in Range 1, 50 in Range 2 and a few in Range 3. It's ok for a car to have a few in Range 4 (maybe to some 233 is acceptable), but the fact that it has 8000+ in Range 1, 2000+ in Range 2 just seems like a lot.

IMO, I would stay away. However, I sure there are some people on this forum that will say its ok.

I wouldn't be concerned about range 1 or 2 over revs as long as they weren't as many as what this ECU scan shows in those ranges. But, anything over and including range 4 would make me pass on it, as would many others if I am not wrong about this.

If my impressions are shared by many, then it would make it that much harder to sell it in the future, were you to consider that. Something to think about. I'd pass IMO.

Simple. How much time the car has spent OVER redline. Search the forum for the answers on the DME. It is a matter of offsetting factors. Obviously to drive over redline, the car was driven to redline. Assess for yourself. How is the rest of the car? All the options and color you want? Local? Generally, a DME like that suggests the car was beat on, maybe tracked. How many miles? Is it CPO? Is there any warranty left? Do you plan to own the car a long time?
Many will say it was driven the way it was meant to be driven. I want those guys to buy my car when I sell it. Otherwise, I suggest it was driven hard and I'd rather buy a car from someone who took car of it and drove it regularly to 6k RPM, but never over redline. That isn't driving it like a grandma, but it isn't over stressing it either. Depends how desperate you are for the car and how reasonable the price is.

Thanks for the replies. The car has 19K miles and has all the options I want and it still looks new. I am buying from a dealer and it has 14 months left on the old CPO. I think I may back out of it and keep looking,it is a great looking car.

Don't necessarily let the DME be a deal killer. It is quite hard to find a used car equipped just the way you want it in the right color. Remaining CPO warranty is a big plus. Note that CPO warranties don't transfer if they are sold from a dealer and a Porsche dealer would need to certify the car to sell it with a fresh CPO. Be sure to look into it if you are still interested in the car.
