There are a lot of speedsters around LA. I've said this once, and I'll say it again. I don't think the 991 will sell well due to the economy. I really think that they are going to get strong sales from China. And all the left over 991s will just mean fat discounts. Dealerships will load each 991s will tons of options because they are greedy. It has worked before, but I think that will bite American dealerships in the *** this time around. I wouldn't be surprised if the base sells better than the s since even the base is approaching people's limit. We'll just have to see.

I'm not sure we can infer much from the Speedster. Though it looks hot, it's way more expensive than a 997S without much performance difference. It can appeal to a handful of people looking for exclusivity, but even they might be deterred by it not being a good value. By comparison, in that price range I'd much rather get a GT3 RS 4.0.

I bought a 2009 S Coupe under just about the same circumstance... Close to 22% off so I wasn't too worried about the "depreciation hit"..
I'm looking at the 991 but I'd do the 2011 911S in a heartbeat. I see some positive changes in the 991 but I can't imagine it's a much different drive that the 997.2?
Love the exterior of the 991 but have some reservations about the interior from the pics... Of course the pics may not do it justice and it may be a knockout.
Boy, it sure is nice to be able to shop in the Porsche showroom rather than be stuck trying to make a deal in a KIA showroom... Life is good....

Porsche does a lot of market research and I'm guessing that the 991 will be a success... I suspect Porsche has thought this through pretty well..

I've come full circle from hating on the 991 and eschewing it's bigger is better philosophy to devouring each new snippet of 991 info and falling in love with the photos I've seen so far. Once I get to test drive the 991, I have a feeling the 997.2 won't even be an option.

Werd. Sheeit once the baby Panamera and baby Cayenne launch, sales of the 991 won't even be a factor LOL.

I'm not saying I'd trade but: A little bit of success sure has made life complicated compared to the years when I was happy to live in an apartment where I didn't have to share a bathroom and I drove a 240SX LS manual.

LOL, I know exactly what you mean! My wife and I often talk about that.

There are many studies which indicate that people have their highest income and spending during middle age, but also tend to be least happy during middle age (since these are trends, of course there are exceptions). The reason(s) for lower happiness aren't so clear, but I suspect that much greater burdens (job, raising kids, caring for elderly parents, newly emerging health issues, more complicated financial management, etc.) are a key factor.

But you're right, I'm not eager to go back to those apartment days either. And I do sometimes tell myself that, if I have to deal with all these burdens, at least I can have some nice cars.

when 997 first came out in 2004/2005, 996 coupe was at least 20% off. Majority of the 996 in stock were unpopular colors like green.

you can expect the same with 991, probably even greater discount since 991 is a brand new model.

unless you are getting 20% off, i would not buy a 997 new. order a 991 with your own spec. you'll enjoy it a lot when it arrives in a few months.
