I have a 2006 C2S Cab, 6-speed with the multi-function steering wheel (like the carbon fiber wheel 2 pic attached, except mine is the stock thickness and is cocoa brown leather).

I am looking to get a second wheel and ship it off to get redone in a thicker version, possibly with Alcantara, thumb rest, etc.
Most of the wheels for sale out there, are too expensive to use as a core / donor wheel for this type of modification.

I found a possible 'donor' wheel core, BUT: it is a tiptronic multi-function wheel (as in the brown wheel 1 pic below).

My question: is it possible to replace the silver-colored plastic gear up/down rockers on the tip wheel with the solid plastic bits on the 6-speed wheel?

If yes, can anyone give me an idea of the part number etc.
If no, is there any problem in using the tip wheel with the gear switch buttons disconnected / disabled?

(I want to keep my original wheel for possible sale of car in the future).
I asked the same question on renntech but there does not seem to be as much traffic as here
