TPMS Question

I need some schooling on TPMS. I want to have my lobsters powder coated black. Found a place here in Tucson that has a 2 day turnaround. How do I deal with TPMS? Anyone have pics of the sensors on the wheels? I haven't a clue what they look like. I'm guessing they have to be removed, no? Can they be reused? Do you need to keep the sensor with the wheel it came off of or are they interchangeable? Will the computer need to be reset after re installation?

Anyone in the Tucson area have an old set of wheels and tires I could borrow/rent to help me avoid the jack stand option while it is in the my garage. The car is not a daily driver and the tires/wheels do not have to be roadworthy.

FWIW: I searched the 997 forum and did not find the info I request here.

Thanks!

They look like this. They are easy to remove (after tire removal) for you to have the wheels powder coated. They are held in place by their valve stem. They are interchangeable. The computer will likely take a few miles or a little while to re-calibrate and settle down.

Interesting....post some photo's when you're done. I'm wondering how the Ruby will look with black or anthracite color on the wheels. I was thinking about going with a black and chrome lip or polished lip wheel. I have black interior. I think my chrome wheels look good on the car but I think I want a more aggressive look. Racier maybe.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks Keninirvine, looks pretty simple. Any consumable parts required? O-rings/seals etc?

Lamb, go to Tire Rack's website and you can get a representation of the black OZs on a ruby 997. It will give you a general idea. There's a metallic red late model Mustang GT in my neighborhood with black matte wheels, looks really nice. Whatever I do with my wheels one thing is a must....BLACK!

Sweet....can't wait to see the finished product. I love the TireRack web site but the wheels don't seem to look right on the car but you're right it is a good representation.

I never found a need to replace any seals, but suggest you inspect them to make sure they look good. Don't tighten too much either. Can't remember recommended torque.

Beru recommends 4Nm Of Torque (+/- .05). The link to their instructions for installation od their sensors is listed below.
