I was going to to post a thread along these lines. I've been driving around for the past year with my dash display on avg mpg full time. I monitored it quite a bit. I used it to drive more conservatively and save gas. Don't get me wrong, I'd take every opportunity to stretch out the legs, but I was trying to be conservative when it didn't matter - ie driving up to a stoplight.
However, I've recently decided to throw that out the window. I don't want to know anymore.
I now have my display on miles till fill-up.
