Weapon of choice to attack the Dragon?
I would take the C2S because of the controlled power through the NA engine. Turbos can get loose if you aren't careful (As evidenced by the two off-track experiences by the guy in front of me two weeks ago - he was done after number two).
Twisty turns aren't for a turbo unless it has been seriously modified IMO.

Other than highway pulls I'm thinking the C2S is going to satisfy my needs.
I think you are right on the C2S. I do see merit in the mid-engined comment earlier. I have driven a Cayman R and that would be a nice choice for the Dragon. That is a well-balanced car.
For the Dragon, give me a mid engined Porsche anyday ! I owned a Boxster S before my current 997 C4S and in many ways prefer the Boxster's maneuverability, lightness, and handling abilities. The C4S feels lumbersome and heavy on tight twisty two lane roads, many of which we have here in Oregon......
This post made me realize how much I miss NC and driving that road...
Honestly, you can have fun on that road riding just about anything on wheels so stop wasting time deciding and ride it an hour more
Have fun (safely),
T.

I'd vote for the Carrera S. Even more so if had PDK. I went with a group of Cayman drivers last year and it was one of my best trips to the Dragon. I drove a Cayman S PDK on that trip.
What would really be fun on the Dragon is a shifter kart.
I hope to make it back in the Carrera S for one more trip this year.

I would pull the trigger on a Cayman R in a heartbeat if I was comfortable sitting in it
My knees practically touch the steering column. The new Cayman will apparently have more legroom but it's still a few years out from what I've read.
My dilemma stems from the fact that I've owned several turbo cars in the past and love tinkering. That said I'm not looking for a drag monster but a well balanced, fun car to drive ANYWHERE. I do quite a bit of mountain driving and am thinking (both from a financial and fun factor) that the C2S will fit the bill. If I start missing a turbo car I'll pick up a TTS down the road.

I used to belong to the Cobra Club of Ohio which was a great collection of guys who built their kit cars into some amazing works of art... Beautiful paint and powerful engines .. Suspension was the builders choice in most cases but the cars really came into their own when driven in a straight line... The cars could do amazing things when in the hands of a good driver... Unfortunately, the cars, as with most cars, have much more ability than most drivers...
It was always interesting at the autocross events to watch these cars take off like a bat outta hell and end up spinning out a third of the way through the course... Then an educated driver would take a twenty year old Ford Focus and blow the doors off everyone at the event... Talk about a humbling experience... and the message was not lost on most members.. Finesse and education make all the difference...
At the Dragons Tail I'll be the first pull over in my Porsche c2s and let that noble bastard in the Focus pass me by...

My wife saw the same thing when she went to Phil Wicks Driving Academy in her "little" Mini Cooper S and the Viper club was there the same day. The Viper would roar off as the ground shook and the Mini's would be left in the dust. Not long after, as the Vipers would plow into turn 3 the "little" Mini's (driven by a GIRL no less!) would pass them like they were sitting still.
Kinda made me proud and did justice to her vanity plate "ONRAILS"
