winter wheel/tire opions

I'm leaning on getting new 18's sport edition cup 4 for my 09 Targa 4 instead of putting 19's snow tires on my Turbo wheels. Im only planning on using the Targa when there is no snow or ice on the road. Having said that one dealer has recommended Winter 240 Sottozero 235/40r18 and 265/40r18 and another dealer said go with 235/40r18 and 295/35r18 which is better/correct? I believe the wheels are 18x8 and 18x 10. On a side note, given how i plan on using the car in the winter, am i better just mounting 19's snow or all season tires on my 19' Turbos? Thank in advance...

I was originally going to go with 18's too, using some of those inexpensive TireRack wheels, because the selection of winter tires is better in 18's and they're a little cheaper.

In the end I bought a set of 19" Turbo wheels for my summer tires and will use my 19" lobster claws for winter wheels.

I really lucked out because I checked around with various tire dealers in Denver looking for 19" snow tires. I found 1 set of new Pirelli's in stock but the list price was $540 per tire. But the guy told me he had had them for 3 winters with no buyers so he sold them to me for $540 per tire with a buy 1 get 3 free deal! So I got the set for $540. Score!

I'm going to go with 19s on my C4S. 235s in the front, 295 on the butt. Going to use my Carrera 2 OEM wheels and then get some HREs or something when summer rolls around.

Got Sottozeros GT Speed with 21 inch wheels for winter driving and had no issues. Dealer is full of it. Get a set of Sottozeros or Blizzaks depending on if you prefer speed or deeper snow capabilities and have them swapped by a reputable tire shop if this is your dealers attitude. Though 20 inch wheels are literally about 200 less per tire so you pay a premium for 21 inch tires. Last winter was around 500+ on tirerack when one had to be replaced.
