Supercharged 997 owners experiences?

I'm on the fence on supercharging my 997.1. I have scrubbed this forum and Rennlist for discussions on superchargers. Since the kits have been out for over five years, what experiences and thoughts can those who supercharged their cars share? I've seen a lot of naysayers on the subject, but none of them seem to have actually owned a supercharged 997!
  • What was your experience with your supercharger?
  • Did you have running problems such as idle issues or mechanical issues that you suspect (or are convinced) were related to having the engine supercharged?
  • How many years and miles have you had on your 997 since you supercharged it?
  • If you sold your 997 did the supercharger impact your resale value?
  • Did you love your supercharger?
  • Would you supercharge your 997 again if you had to do it all over again?

It would be great to get this straight from those with real experience as opposed to the superstitions of those who really don't have personal experience. Thank you!!

Thank you! I don't think I have ever heard anyone who actually supercharged their car ever be upset about it. It's wild to me that a lot of owners are against it when they have no direct experience. Reps to you!

There may possibly be others that are against it personally for themselves however I have not really heard of negatives from those that have the actual installation. No question it adds significant power to the car. Does it add additional stresses? No question, but to what extent and how much you actually shorten the life of the engine is very debatable and not usually fact driven. Guys that have had problems have had issues not attributable to the actual SC itself in general.
The largest risk is the installation and making sure it is done correctly and there are lots of stories where the installs were bad. IMO it is the best performance bang for the buck. You could also look at the TPC turbo that is out there. That was not an option when I supercharged. Just to be on the safe side I added alcohol injection since I'm running a smaller pulley and a higher .Psi than the kit was designed for. I also added an real time AFR wideband controller to monitor the ratio and have been happy with both. The sky is the limit, just when you start modifying to the extent I have it may have made more sense to simply get the real turbo version and flash it.
As for the basic kit, I do recommend it and have had no issues.

I would also look into a TPC turbo. It is easier to install, less stress on the engine, less psi for the same amount of HP. Easier to up the boost, just twist a **** as oppose to changing the pulley. TPC has gone soley with turbocharged systems instead of supercharger. I would assume they know what they are doing. I would search the forums before you make your decision, you will find, most prefer the the turbo.

I am going to check that out! More HP, less pressure and easier install sounds intriguing! Any turbo lag with yours? Since you are in Colorado, I would love the check it out on your car if possible.

Thanks!

Don

No lag. It is smooth and very linear like your car now but just with way more power. PM returned!

if you want to improve street acceleration i think it will be relatively safe to go with supercharger - buy one cattman has for sale now as it goes for peanuts.

if you want to track car a lot i would stay away from any drastic modifications to m96 or m97 engines as it will get enough stress and you do not want any extra components on top of that. plus, available power on a track is not a major limitation for this car.

i second motion about 997.1 turbo - if you want real crazy power for street - get a turbo car and put on 700hp package from evo.

charger will add about of 100 horses to stock.

Well actually i have not driven one with a turbo kit, so i could'nt give you an educated answer. I would get a Factory turbo over a supercharged one.
