Porsche PCM ext nav map upgrade

Hi All
I have the PCM 2.1 with ext nav ('08 GT3 RS) does anyone know whether I need to upgrade the os to use an updated maps disc? A friend upgraded his system with an aftermarket system and is willing to give me the map disc from his '10 GT3 RS PCM 3.0 to use. Thank you for your time.

What I have read on other sites indicate that the two sport different h/w and s/w, touch-screen, dynamic rerouting based on traffic channel, etc. I also read that the PCM 3.0 uses hard-drive based navigation not CD, so your comment on getting a 3.0 CD is confusing.

It's not confusing, it's just like buying software on a CD/DVD that you load onto your computer's hard drive. The 3.0 updates are delivered the same way.

I was under the impression that map upgrades had to be installed with a PIWIS, not via DVD, for 09-up?

To the best of my knowledge, they're installed via DVD but need a code activation via PIWIS. I thought about getting the new 2012 updates for my 2010, but close to $500 plus whatever the dealer charges for the PIWIS coding seems a little much for only a 2 year old GPS.
