max speed achieved on public road?
For myself driving, 140 mph in a rental M-B C220 Kompressor on the A3 in Germany. I rode with a friend in his Boxster in Germany where the indicated speed was 168 mph ( 272 kph) on the A2. Actually it was probably more like 160 mph? I drove my VW Passat 1.9 TDI at 125 mph ( over 200 kph) on a regular basis while living in Germany.
Too fast for me to ever do that again. The circumstances were safe, with no other cars on the road, no properties or ramps adjacent to the road (open highway), straight road with a couple of miles visibility, dry pavement, and well within the car's capability. But getting caught by a LEO at that speed would have been big trouble.

Kind of a funny thread... how many people are going to want to admit to the crazy illegal things they've done in their p-cars?
I'll admit to 140MPH on the autobahn in a rented Audi A6. Perfectly legal and safe

And just another thought on this... I drove my Porsche to a business meeting in Denver recently, and some of my colleagues didn't previously know I had it. Of course, much conversation ensued, and one of the questions that came up was "How fast have you gone?" It seems that non Porsche people need to hear a large number so they can decide whether or not you are worthy of the car (even though they have no clue what it can do).
My answer was that 90MPH around a tight right-hander on the track is a lot more thrilling than triple digit speeds on a straight highway. Apparently that answer makes me worthy of a Porsche
