Gas fill up quirk. Everyone has this?

On my third 997 and had 996 with same quirk. Know about the issue but always assumed based on comments here that while other ppl have it, not everyone did.

Given I'm on my 4th straight 911 that does, either I've hit a remarkable streak of bad luck or maybe all 911 model gas tanks think it's "full" and those other ppl are wrong about not having the issue.

The quirk: no matter how tight I think the seal is when filling up, unless I physically tip the handle up greater than 45 degrees or so and keep it held there, whenever I fill up my tank the auto stop goes off far before the tank is full. e.g. at half, 3/4 full, etc.

Simple solution and not a huge pain really. But given I'm on my 4th straight 911 with this, it seems a universal quirk, not just a few that sometimes have it.

Anyone else always had this? And anyone never have it with multiple 911s?

Just curious, again not a major pain.

I get that too....I thought it was just my car. I bought an 06 used and thought it was just a quirk of the car.

Same here. I always wondered why the nozzle shuts off early. Could it be the gasoline bubbling up and triggering the shutoff?

I have this issue as well on a '08 997.1, but it happens some times only. On another thread, someone noticed it happening at some gas stations and not others. Do you use the same gas station/ vendor? May be they have different nozzle designs that affect this?

You should set up a poll to see how prevalent this "quirk" is with 6speedonline members.

Sensitivity of the nozzle just hold it up. I was always worried the auto shutoff would pop the nozzle out of the filler and scratch my car so I always hold it up anyway.

ThiS happens mostly at gas statins with the new environmentally friendly nozzles. Porsche has a fix. Go to your dealer and ask. They will install a little piece of plastic overe your existing gas intake. Doesn't work 100 percent of the time but is much better than without.

The solution to this when filling the tank is to hold the pump nozzle 180 degrees from where it normally would be, i.e. upside-down. Shut off is normal, and the fill is to the top.

I seem to get this mostly when the pumps have the long plastic accordion type covering for the fume collection or whatever. Occasionally I can't even get the auto function to work on them, they just constantly pop off.

Never had this issue but in NY the "auto fillers" are not allowed on self serve pumps.

I am on my 4th 911 - 911, 964, 993 and now 997 - and have not experienced this in any of the years. I put the auto-fill lever/catch on the first click, slowest position if you will, and the pump usually stops around 14.5 or 15.5 gallons.

Seen a lot of other quirks with the little cars but not this one.

Again. Guys there is a fix from Porsche. Costs nothing. Porsche recognizes there is a problem with the new gas nozzle hoods.

Happens with california pumps, in the mean time turn the nozzle upside down when you fill up.

Just a note as the OP that I wasn't complaining, wondering if/why there's no fix, etc. I know there is one, don't really care about a fix as it's not a huge pain or anything like that

I merely wondered whether this was a universal issue or I've just had the bad luck now of 4 straight 911s with symptoms. Sounds like from at least one response they've never had the problem, hence just my bad luck

And note - for me not a California or new nozzle type issue - some gas stations I regularly go to has the pure metal nozzle old style and I have same there as with places like Chevron with new style

For me, it works to hold the handle at 9 o'clock. FWIW, there are some pumps that have the same problem with our family car (Volvo) too. I think it's as much to do with the newer more sensitive pumps designed to prevent overfill and fumes.
