I face the same decision....I will go with Cats. I am holding out for a used one or a great sale. I think $1400 is a lot to fork out for them.

Headers

I understand the 3.8 L S has restrictive headers to limit overall BHP, so as not too approach the Gen 1 GT3 - Porsche marketing !!!
Iam really, only aware of the x51 headers and fabspeeds sports headers / cats combo.
Is there any other reputable company offering aftermarket headrests and cats ?
Do the fabspeed combination headers flow as efficiently as the X51 headers?
What are the dimensions of the X51 headers ? I believe fabspeed are the same as oem ?

In CA, neither the 100 or 200 will pass smog. Is there any reason not to go with the 100's? My ETG tune is already set to delete CEL.v

Do the simple and effective mod of drilling into the exhaust to bypass (in part) the canisters. It'll give you all the sound you need.

If you don't want too much sound, but a nice power gain, take a look at our 200 Cell Sport Cat X Pipe. PM or email me if you have any questions.
thanks,
Hi Alex, I visited http://www.fabspeed.com/carrera_2009.html and was wondering which package is specicfically the cat-bypass you speak of. i definitely want the very loud and agressive sound. i currently have PSE. is the cat-bypass compatible with the on/off PSE switch, i/e. "silent vs. loud"?

thanks,wolf

IMO the Gundo/PSE delivers the most sound while delivering the 911 exhaust note..

The fabspeed sport cat bypass (200 cel) and the cat bypass pipes, which out of the two makes most power?

What about the muffler bypass pipes? Anyone here tried them, do they give more power too?

PM Sent. Yes you can keep your stock PSE exhaust on the 997.2 DFI car and run our Headers without Cats for an aggressive sound and increased power. The Cat-less headers are $1995 and I can make you a nice member special on it. They will work with your stock PSE exhaust and your primary muffler or what ever else you have in place. PM me if you have any questions.
thanks,

I have the factory X51 headers, AWE 200-cell cats and the Gundo hacked mufflers. No CELs in the two years I've had the setup, & it passes MA inspection with no problem. With the Softronic tune and BMC filter it overall feels & sounds more powerful & responsive than it did stock.

Did it all at once & didn't bother to dyno, so not sure how much each individual component (or the system overall) adds to the sound or HP/TQ but I'm still thrilled every day with the drive-ability and acoustics. Have received lots of compliments on the sound too. GL!

You can use your existing headers with new 200 cell cats. Upgrading your headers in addition to the new cats will not make a significant difference as compared to only doing the cats (my opinion). Be aware that the header bolts can become a major headache because they sometimes break off in the cylinder heads. If you leave your existing headers in place then you can avoid that potential headache.

Did you run the Gundo hack before installing the cats? I'm trying to get an idea of the sound change when adding the cats to Gundo hacks...

Spray some penetrating oil or something the day before you take the header bolts off. Always works great for me.
