Engine compartment emergency release

Are you asking because your battery died and you are trying to access your engine compartment?
I have not done this for the engine compartment, but I have done this for the frunk. There is a cable (looks like a brake cable on a mountain bike) that runs underneath of the wheel well liner. For the frunk, you can access this by removing a couple screws and peeling back the wheel well liner. I imagine there is a similar cable located underneath the driver side rear wheel well liner.
Once you locate the cable, give it a pull using some pliers. I could not actuate the release by hand as my hand kept slipping from the cable.
Hope this helps.

The battery is not dead. This is the release for the engine llid. Right now the entire emergency release cable is coiled up just left of release mechanism. Where does this cable go so it can be accessed if it is ever needed.

My 2008 997 has a release cable for the engine compartment behind the driver's side taillight...although I've never figured out how to remove the taillight to access it without first having the compartment cover open - maybe someway to access behind the rear wheel?? Let us know what you find out.
