My feelings also. I didn't want the first year 991. I bought a 2012 GTS in late June and love the car. I will keep it for a long time.

I could imagine back in the day when turbos would lag, and instantly dump torque all over your lap. But that has pretty much been erased as a 'problem'.
As much improvement that there is with decreasing turbo lag, it still exists. The 3RS will always feel easier to drive at the limit than my GT2, and that is only because of the instant throttle response. I never feel comfortable giving more than 20% throttle when in a turn with a GT2 but with the 3RS I can modulate the pedal from 10 to 100% thru the turn based on the traction I am feeling from the steering wheel. If the turbo's spool up while turning it is much harder to hold a drift and correct by letting up on throttle, when it spools you are spining/panicking and hitting the brakes for dear life. That is the main reason not to prefer turbo's. I still got a 2 over a 3 because I am doing more street driving than track driving. And even though I could get a better lap time in my 2 than a 3RS, it just does not feel as safe in the turns.

To the OP, I was under the impression that left over GTS was going for huge discounts. I would imagine that you could get a GTS for around 20k less than a 991S. But will the 20K savings be enough to keep you from feeling regret when you see a 991 pull up, and read all the reviews saying how much better it is???

That was a wonderful explanation to prefer N/A over a high horsepower RWD turbo car on track. And I thoroughly agree. My question was geared more towards a Turbo vs C4 (and all of its trimmings). The Turbo doesn't 'drift' as much as the GT2 did (in my experience). The GT2 is flat out scary for me, whereas the Turbo is quite suitable, tamed, and a blast to drive confidently. Obviously the AWD has something to do with this (among other things).

I bought a 2012 GTS back in September and I couldn't be happier with my choice.

I grabbed this car because I'm in for the long haul, meaning I plan on keeping it for quite some time. Also, I think it will be far more "collectable" than a new 991 (just my thoughts)

But ultimately, you need to buy what you fall in love with. I love the 997, and this might seem odd, but I like the fact a new model came out. I find older things in nice shape very appealing. Which in my case, will speed the process up.

Just buy what you feel works. But if it helps you decide, the GTS is AMAZING!!!!!

A GTS4 would make a very nice DD as would the 991S and turbo. Three of us could drive the three noted cars and none of us choose the same car. I really wanted a GT3 but physical limitations prevent that choice. Tried a turbo but I didn't like the feel. Drove a GTS2 with PDK and I was sold. Had there been a GTS4 at the dealer I may considered it. As far as the 991 goes it will be an impressive car. I just decided the GTS2 equipped and priced as it was would suit me for several years.

Leftover GTSs are coming with some pretty good discounts. $16k off sticker can be found without a whole lot of keystrokes.

Enjoy the hunt.

Just buy a low milealge gt3 rs, and you won't mind when a 991 pulls up next you. And the base price of the 991 is cheap, but after adding some options it will be around 130 to 135.

I have also seen a couple of gts's and they look and sound mean. Can't go wrong either way, but if the 991 drives anything like my ex panemera, I would definatley go for the gts.

Thanks for all the posts. I have Range Rover as well, so family duties are taken care of. I only drive 15 or 20 miles a day, and I live in the city, mplentynof transit for the really snowy days, or I can take a cab.

I don't mind a rougher ride. In fact I love the Aston for all the gear and exhaust noise. The S4 is just a bit numb, it lacks the drama of my other cars.

I have to drive the 991 to ensure they have not ironed out all the character out. I feel like our window on noisy mechanical cars are coming to an end. That was my draw to the Aston, a kind of car that is not going to be made again.

In our market the 2012 GTS cars are going for 120k,nthe 991= $90 (base), the 991S=110 (base).

It just sucks driving the S4 knowing you have an Aston in the garage.

I also considered getting a TT RS or a C63 as a DD and keeping the Vantage.

Yeah, they look pretty slippery on dry pavement. Gonna try one in the morning. I'm not sure I'm in love with it, but I'll let the experience guide me. It sounds incredible.

The Audi dealers are not fun to deal with, and I have owned four. More than a week of back and forth and still no numbers. Crazy!!

It's like pulling teeth

All Mercedes I've driven have been terrible in the snow unless they were AWD and/or had snow tires.
