2012 GTS vs 991S???

I'm considering changing my cars up in currently run a 2010 S4 and a 4.7 Vantage. I run th S4 all year and the Vantage sleeps all winter.

I hate having a car just depreciate all winter, but I do need a semi DD. I enjoy track days too.

Perhaps I get rid of them both a pick up a Porsche, in my city you can drive them all year.

So...

I love the GTS (with aero kit), but they (997) still sell for 12k more than a 991 S. Are they worth it? Will they hold their value once the 991's show up?

From what I have read a 991 S will be faster than the GTS. Granted the GTS will have a different character, but I wonder if that will wane as the 991 becomes the new standard.

Might also just keep the Vantage and get a C63 or a TT RS. I know they are all very different beasts. The Aston and Porsche are where my heart is at.

991S>997GTS performance and price.

If your heart is with a Porsche, get one.

I have a GTS and love everything about it.....although I don't drive it in the winter

If you want to drive it year round....get the C4 GTS or the 991 4S

Interesting dilemma - I run a '12 S4 as my DD and have a '12 Cayman S BE as my fun car .. for me - there just wasn't one car that met all my needs and living in the 'burbs and working in the city (If Audi would import the RS6 Avante that would do it) .. I wanted the Cayman as it was the best choice for me and the last run of the current production .. I looked at the GTS as well. My 2 cents .. either get the GTS or wait till second year of 991.

Take your Cayman and an RS6 Avant to the track, you will find that your statement that there isn't a car that will do everything is correct. Nice car, but very portly for the real fun.

No issue, I am just saying that no car can do everything, if you really want a Porsche and need a DD, and don't mind the idea of a bigger car like the RS6, you should look at the Panamera TT. I would love to have one one day.

What would be the advantage of a GTS over a Turbo?

None, unless you don't like forced induction

Would there be a reason NOT like it?

I could imagine back in the day when turbos would lag, and instantly dump torque all over your lap. But that has pretty much been erased as a 'problem'.

More power is nice to have, but for some the NA Porsche has more then enough.

In my C2S I rarely said damn I wish I had more power, I would imagine that in my GT3, it will be even less of a concern.

Understood, so you're saying it's a preference that some may say - the GTS power is enough?

I can agree with that. It is pretty decent. I think I'm coming to a new issue now that there is a 4-GTS - another trim level? Really? Why not have a base and then make this the 'S' (call it whatever you want). But let's take a look at the 911 spectrum again... C2/C2cab/C2S/GTS/GTScab/C2Scab/C4/C4cab/C4S/C4Scab/C4GTS/C4GTScab/Targa/TargaS/GT3/GT3RS/Turbo/Turbocab/TurboS/TurboScab/GT2/GT2RS. If I missed some, forgive me... Character limit became a concern.

I think we need another trim level. Why not a hybrid... Then we can double the trim levels by offering a hybrid powerplant for each current trim, designated by an 'H' - C2H/C2SH/etc...

I opted for my 2012 GTS rather than wait on the 991S....could have done either but my personal preference was not to have the first model year of the 991. Long term plan (3-4 years or so) is 991....maybe GT3 or GTS....depends on what is available at that time...including my $$'s available at that time. (oh and my beater for bad weather is either my Dodge Ram truck or my wife's Audi Allroad)

For some the power of a Prius is enough, so yes the power of a GTS is enough for some, if not most.

I agree there are a lot of models, Porsche is the most customizable car from the factory, so having all these models is par for there course.
