is the new cayman sportier than the 991 ?

saw some pics and specs of the new cayman

looks freakin' great !

love the side vent (why don't we have that ?? )

http://www.roadandtrack.com/future-c...rsche-cayman-s

didn't like the old cayman's looks.. but the new one looks more like the real 911 than the 991 (which is getting bigger)

u know the mid-engine layout will drive great.. and with the added power, it may be sportier than the 991.

thoughts ?

yup

this looks great and IMO a much bigger stride ahead from the past Cayman... where I think the new 991 was a step back.... new 991 an amazing car but a bit to porkly and luxorama for my taste in a sports car...

I have to agree. It won't be faster, but certainly it looks sportier.

they will never put same engine into croc that they have in 911 so 911 will always be faster and, well, sportier.

Well this appearance change seems to work a LOT better on the croc then the boxster. Even the rear end does not look terrible as it does on the boxster. It's still a little blingie for my taste but not too shabby.

hmmmmm

is an e55 sportier then a Lotus elise just because it maybe faster? what about a bentley GT supersport vs again a lotus elise? certainly faster but far from "sportier"....

the 991 is an amazing car, no doubt but its has gone even further to the way of a grand touring car style wise then ever before. Not a bad thing to many but a thing never the less

I think the new cayman maybe viewed by many as getting much closer the more sportier porsche in the coming years...maybe not now but its gaining on the 911! we will see more the cars unfold...

I think its all great and whats keeps me so interested in Porsche, the brand, cars they are releasing.... I am a guy that said I would never own anything but a 911 (variant etc) but actaully happy to find myself as eager to see the new cayman as the new 991... maybe even a tad bit more excited to be honest....

I think it looks great (in photos and renderings)

I wouldn't say "sportier" than the 911, different cars. It's a nice car though, that is certain.

I agree. Seems like a purer sports car to me.

I think the new Boxster looks very generic. Sort of SLK bling with a huge hint of MR2 and 599 lights and Panamera rears. I'm sure it will be a hit, but it will further dilute the brand.

Lots of clumsy bits like the joints at the rear quarters. Very tidy on the current car. Not so on the new car.

I'm in the minority, but it now looks like a car for people who are trying to look like they spent a lot vs people who can drive.

Well... checking quickly:

and the MR2:

and an old friend, gone but not forgotten (her NSX that is, not my Cindy):

I might buy the objection to the cut lines, though I think the rearward one blends nicely with the visual flow to the new wing. Nevertheless, I'd say that overall the car resembles other mid-engine cars with four wheels and we couldn't say much more than that. The detail features still scream Boxster, wouldn't you say? And the lines and masses distinguish the Boxster and our NSX so well you could tell the difference at half a mile. As for the MR2... well, you could tell the difference using braille. Nice cute little car, but not an NSX or Porsche.

I really like all of the new designs. I think Porsche has moved the needle a bit in styling with all three new redesigns. I really want to drive each of them to see if there are any material differences. My only gripe is that they continue to not offer more power in the mid-engine cars. I think the flat four turbo will be great, but I would prefer 350 BHP in a NA engine.

i am sure the cayman will be flat6 with 350hp.. which is plenty for the 2-seater.

btw, the look is still all porsche with hint of ferrari (is it the sides or just the red color ?? lol)
