[Q] Crossing the redline

This is really a design and warranty question(s)-- In a pdk 997.2 or higher, is it possible to actually exceed redline? If so, why does the car design allow this? Secondarily, if it is improper to run the engine at higher revs but revs that are lower than redline because the engine hasn't warmed up (and the car knows that the engine isn't warmed up because the oil level indicator says "engine not warmed up"), why does the car design allow the user to engage sport+ for example or create too high revs? Why doesn't the s/w not just override the user? I can understand these issues existing in a manual but do they exist in a PDK? These questions came to mind while I was reading the thread on the blown engine and the DME report. Thanx.

You've just left a location where your car has been parked and cooled down...home, work, any place. A few minutes into your drive, something happens and you need to scoot NOW! Avoid an accident, carjacking, anything. Do you want the software to keep you from moving away quickly?

You know, you do have to engage the most complex computer ever devised to operate a car........your brain. If you need a car's computer to do all the thinking for you, perhaps you should consider mass transportation.

you should never be above range 1 overrevs i would think, but it obviously depends of car`s computer as all you can do to change PDK gears is to push some buttons.

I ran my PDK Cayman S on track in Sport Plus. I had the DME read out just prior to trading the car. I know I had nothing above range 1 and I'm not sure if I had anything showing at all.

Thanx Utkinpol and Alan. This together with gasongasoff's comments lead me to believe you really can't overrev these cars if you are using the pdk in auto, manual, or lauch control modes. Separately there may be a practical issue with an unwarmed engine and high revs but it doesn't appear that the DME ties revs to engine temperature...or does it?

I had this exact conversation with the service manager at my Porsche dealer when I bought my car. He said it is impossible for a pdk to over-rev unless there is a computer failure. He has seen it happen 1x since the PDK's came out. Basically, PDK's are fire and forget
